1. Mechanisms involved in macrophage phagocytosis of apoptotic cells
Sammanfattning : Efficient removal of apoptotic cells is critical for development, tissue remodelling, maintenance of homeostasis, and response to injury. Phagocytosis of apoptotic cells is mediated by many phagocytic receptors, soluble bridging molecules, and pro-phagocytic ligands on the surface of apoptotic cells. LÄS MER
2. The CD40 Receptor - Target,Tool and Technology
Sammanfattning : CD40 is a cell surface receptor of pivotal importance that is expressed on several of the cells in the immune system. It is critical for many important events, such as T cell dependent B cell activation, isotype switching, somatic mutation and generation of B cell memory. LÄS MER
3. B cell activation in vitro: thymus-dependent immune responses and bacterial cell surface proteins
Sammanfattning : In this thesis aspects of peripheral B lymphocyte differentiation were studied. Through in vitro experiments, B lymphocyte activation was assessed. B lymphocytes express immunoglobulin (Ig) specific for a certain antigen on the cell surface, and when surface Ig is crosslinked by an antigen, the cell is activated. LÄS MER
4. Innate and adaptive immune responses in the lungs. Contribution to protection against mycobacterial infections
Sammanfattning : Host defense against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is mediated by a combination of innate and adaptive immunity. In this thesis we investigated the role of components of innate system such as TLR2 signalling and alveolar epithelial cells type II (AEC II) in the immune responses against mycobacterial infections. 5. Regulation of lymphocyte activation and death
Sammanfattning : T lymohocytes (T cells) and B lymphocytes (B cells) are important effector cells of the adaptive immune system. In response to infections, B cells are activated and produce antibodies against specific antigens. LÄS MER
