  1. 1. Vibrio cholerae modulates the immune defense of human gut mucosa

    Författare :Aziz Bitar; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Sun Nynt Wai; Mikael Rehn; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vibrio cholerae; intestinal epithelial cell; duodenum biopsy; acute cholera; immunomodulation; microRNA; OMV; cytokine; T84 monolayer; miR-146; miR-155; VCC; PrtV; hemolysis; IL-8; TNF-a; IL-1b; IL-18; CCL20; IRAK2; inflammation; mikrobiologi; Microbiology; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The key function of innate immunity is to sense danger signals and initiate effective responses as a defense mechanism against pathogens. Simultaneously, effector responses must be regulated to avoid excessive inflammation with resulting tissue damage. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Tick-borne diseases and the central nervous system : clinical and immunological aspects

    Författare :Paula Gyllemark; Anna Jonsson Henningsson; Pia Forsberg; Jan Ernerudh; Johanna Sjöwall; Marie Studahl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB) is the dominating form of disseminated infection by the tick-borne bacteria Borrelia (B.) burgdorferi in Sweden as well as in Europe. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Transcriptome based analysis of Hodgkin lymphoma : insights into the microenvironment

    Författare :Anna Birgersdotter; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hodgkin lymphoma; Epstein-Barr virus; gene expression; tissue culture; cell-line models;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on the analysis of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), in particular the complex interaction between the malignant cells and the abnormally behaving bystander cells, and this complexity of the inflammatory infiltrate in HL constantly challenge scientists. The common thread in this thesis is the usage of gene expression profiling of whole tumour tissues, laser-captured Hodgkin Reed Sternberg (H-RS) cells and of cell-lines. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aspects of inflammation, angiogenesis and coagulation in preeclampsia

    Författare :Roland Boij; Leif Matthiesen; Jan Ernerudh; Maria Jenmalm; Göran Berg; Henrik Hagberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Preeclampsia is a major challenge to obstetricians, due to its impact on maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality and the lack of preventive and treatment strategies. The overall aim of this thesis is to increase the knowledge of the pathogenesis of preeclampsia including the role of inflammation, angiogenesis and coagulation, both locally at the fetomaternal interface and in the maternal circulation. 5. 5. Laboratory methods for investigation of the immunological orchestra in response to pathogens

    Författare :Hanna Carlsson; Ivar Tjernberg; Christina Ekerfelt; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Jorma Hinkula; Matti Sällberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Borrelia; Influenza; Immunology; Immune response; Cellmediated; Serological; Subclinical; ELISA; Luminex; Proximity extension assay;

    Sammanfattning : Laboratory methods used for investigation of immune response often involve collection of whole blood and analysis of different biomarkers in blood components or generated from pathogen stimulation of whole blood or peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Methods used to measure biomarkers are for example enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) which measures one biomarker at a time or multiplex assays for example x-unknown, multi-analyte profiling (xMAP) by Luminex or proximity extension assay (PEA), which can measure up to just over 3000 biomarkers at a time.
