  1. 1. Neuro-immune communication: role of the vagus nerve : an electrophysiological study

    Författare :Violeta Bucinskaite; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cholecystokinin; CCKA; CCKB; cytokines; IL-1[beta]; illness; nerve activity; NIDDM; OLETF; the vagus; vagotomy;

    Sammanfattning : Defence mechanisms involve close interactions between the nervous and immune systems following an immune challenge. The vagal pathways which modulate major visceral functions under normal conditions are also important neural pathways for the transmission of information on peripheral conditions to the CNS. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Aspects on the psychopharmacology of cholecystokinin

    Författare :Diana Radu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cholecystokinin; brain; tripeptidyl-peptidase II; CCK receptors; schizophrenia; anxiety; stress; rat; monkey; human; pentagastrin; C-peptide; mRNA;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis includes studies of the effect of mild stress on brain cholecystokinin (CCK), anatomy of markers for CCK-ergic transmission in the brain and the systemic effect of CCK receptor stimulation in a clinical test for anxiety and fear. CCK is a brain-gut peptide acting as a neurotransmitter in mammalian brain via CCKA (CCK1) and CCKB (CCK2) receptors. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Peripherally administered choleocystokinin-8 increases neurotrophins in the brain

    Författare :Paola Tirassa; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NGF; BDNF; CCK-8; glutamate; GABA; CCK receptors; hypothamalus; hippocampus; Choline Acetyltransferase; fimibria-fornix transection; vagotomy; vagal stimulation; RT-PCR; ELISA;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to test the hypothesis that the gastric hormone Cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8) can modulate the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) in the brain. NGF is the first discovered and the best characterized neurotrophic factor which plays a crucial role in the survival and development of basal forebrain cholinergic neurons (BFCN). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterization of neuropeptide, monoamine, and amino acid release in the basal ganglia of the rat : neuronal dependence and reciprocal interactions

    Författare :Zhi-Bing You; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :amino acids cholecystokinin dopamine dynorphin microdialysis morphineneostriatum rat substantia nigra.;

    Sammanfattning : Functional interactions in the basal ganglia of rats were characterized with in vivomicrodialysis. The study was mainly focused on the dynorphin and cholecystokinin (CCK) systems. The extracellular levels of both dynorphin B and CCK were found in the pM range inthe neostriatum and substantia nigra under basal conditions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Coping with Stress : Regulation of the Caulobacter crescentus cell cycle in response to environmental cues

    Författare :Kristina Heinrich; Kristina Jonas; Emanuele Biondi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Caulobacter crescentus; bacteria; cell cycle; stress; filamentation; cell morphology; DNA replication; cell division; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : All organisms have to respond to environmental changes to maintain cellular and genome integrity. In particular, unicellular organisms like bacteria must be able to analyze their surroundings and rapidly adjust their growth mode and cell cycle program in response to environmental changes, such as changes in nutrient availability, temperature, osmolarity, or pH.
