16. Bioprospecting and deep-sea genetic resources in a fragmenting international law
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates if public international law manages to function as a coherent system in the case of deep-sea bioprospecting, where rules in three regimes provide seemingly inconsistent obligations for states. Based on an investigation of the development of bioprospecting and patenting of deep-sea genetic resources, the study explores how rules in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the World Trade Organization Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (WTO TRIPS) apply to such activities. 17. Synthesis and Optical Properties of ZnO Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : One-dimensional ZnO nanostructures have great potential applications in the fields of optoelectronic and sensor devices. Therefore, it is really important to realize the controllable growth of one-dimensional ZnO nanostructures and investigate their properties. LÄS MER
18. Gating and modulation mechanism of voltage gated sodium channels
Sammanfattning : Voltage-gated sodium channels (Nav channels) play an essential role in nerve impulse conduction in excitable cells. Thus, these channels are involved in several neurological and muscular disorders. Understanding their mechanism of functioning is essential for designing drugs targeting them. LÄS MER
19. Tau fragments: role as biomarkers and in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies
Sammanfattning : Abstract Tau protein is physiologically expressed in neurons, where it is involved in microtubule assembly and stability. Tau functions are rigorously regulated by a series of modifications, e.g. phosphorylation and dephosphorylation. LÄS MER
20. Exploring social-cultural explanations for residential location choices : the case of an African City - Dar es Salaam
Sammanfattning : This study explores the factors urban residents consider when making residential location decisions. The context of the study is informal residential areas in a rapidly urbanising African city – the city of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. LÄS MER
