  1. 1. C5a Receptor Expression in Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Mia Furebring; Uppsala universitet.; [2005]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Communicable diseases; C5a receptor; granulocyte; severe sepsis; septic shock; chemotaxis; anti-C5a treatment; ex vivo incubation; C5a; interleukin-8; LPS; Infektionssjukdomar; MEDICINE Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases Infectious diseases; MEDICIN Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar Infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : In patients with sepsis, the activation of the cascade systems, for example the complement system with the generation of C5a, is followed by a state of immunosuppression with impaired bactericidal capacity caused by suppression of the neutrophil granulocytes. To inhibit the C5a-induced systemic inflammatory and the following anti-inflammatory responses, different anti-C5a strategies have been successful in experimental models of sepsis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular evolution of a C5aR antagonist against inflammatory disease

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Erika Gustafsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2009]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : New anti-inflammatory drugs with fewer adverse effects than existing drugs may prove to be useful in the treatment of several inflammatory disorders. A critical step in acute inflammation is the infiltration of neutrophils into tissues. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the induction of inflammatory reactions by Streptococcus pyogenes

    Detta är en avhandling från Lund University, Faculty of Medicine, Institution for Clinical Sciences Lund

    Författare :Lisa Påhlman; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2007]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; Streptococcal collagen-like surface protein; M protein; Inflammation; Streptococcus pyogenes;

    Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pyogenes is an important human pathogen that causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. In order to successfully infect the human host, S. pyogenes is equipped with tools that modulate the human immune defence. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Blood-Graft Interactions: With special reference to cellular immune-reactivity in vascular and endovascular surgery

    Detta är en avhandling från P. Swartbol, Centrumplein 31, 7607 SB Almelo, The Netherlands

    Författare :Paul Swartbol; [1996]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; orthopaedics; Surgery; Inflammatory responses; Immunology; Grafts; Vascular; Endovascular; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : The expression of surface adhesion molecules on white blood cells (WBC) and platelets, and the release of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) after incubation with expanded-polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE)- or woven Dacron grafts was determined. Both graft-materials induced alteration of the WBC adhesion molecule receptor and caused release of TNF-a and IL-6, higher for woven Dacron as compared to ePTFE. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Crosstalk Between Activated Platelets and the Complement System

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Osama A. Hamad; Uppsala universitet.; [2010]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; platelets; activated platelets; TRAP; chondroitin sulfate; C1q; factor H; C4BP; C3; Compstatin; complement; platelet-leukocyte complexes; platelet microparticles; MEDICINE Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases Immunology Clinical immunology; MEDICIN Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar Immunologi Klinisk immunologi; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Several studies have shown that complement and thrombotic events co-exist. Platelets have been suspected to act as the bridge between the two cascade systems. LÄS MER
