  1. 1. Inflammation and Cell Profileration Following Perinatal Brain Injury

    Författare :Katarina Järlestedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypoxia-ischemia; immature brain; reactive gliosis; complement system; C3a; fear conditioning; lipopolysaccharide; inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation plays an important role in cerebral ischemic injury in the immature brain. The aim of the thesis was to investigate (1) the role of astrocyte activation and reactive gliosis in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic (HI) brain injury, (2) the role of complement derived peptide C3a in neonatal HI brain injury, (3) the effect of neonatal HI brain injury on fear learning and behaviour, (4) the effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced systemic inflammation on cell proliferation in the developing brain. 2. 2. Pathogen-host interactions at the surface of Streptococcus pyogenes

    Författare :Patrik Nyberg; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infektioner; Infections; C3a; LL-37; antimicrobial peptide; GRAB; alpha-2-macroglobulin; proteolysis; SpeB; internalization; virulence; protein F1; Streptococcus pyogenes; fibronectin;

    Sammanfattning : The bacterial surface can be thought of as the interface where pathogenic bacteria encounter the human host. Interactions between bacterial surface proteins and human proteins are important determinants of the eventual outcome of infection. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Novel Endogenous Antimicrobial Peptides

    Författare :Emma Nordahl; Lund Dermatologi och venereologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; D5; HK; C3a; HMWK; complement; heparin-binding; antibacterial; Antimicrbial peptide; AMP;

    Sammanfattning : Antimicrobial peptides serve as a first line of defence against invading microorganisms and are an essential part of our fast innate immune system. They are ancient molecules found in all classes of life. Antimicrobial peptides rapidly kill a broad spectrum of microbes and are immunomodulatory, i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 5. STRUCTURAL, FUNCTIONAL AND EVOLUTIONARY STUDIES OF ANTIMICROBIAL PEPTIDES

    Författare :Mukesh Pasupuleti; Lund Dermatologi och venereologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amphipathicity and end-tagging protease susceptibility; anaphylatoxin C3a; P. aeruginosa; S. aureus; innate immunity; amphipathic molecules; Antimicrobial peptides; infectious disease; bacteriostatic; microbicidal and cytolytic properties;

    Sammanfattning : Antimicrobial peptides represent a heterogeneous group that displays multiple modes of action such as bacteriostatic, microbicidal and cytolytic properties that are sequence and concentration dependent. Life threatening infectious disease is now a worldwide crisis and treating them effectively is becoming difficult day by day, due to the emergence of antibiotic resistant strains at alarming rates.
