11. Platelets in inflammation : Role of complement protein C1q, C-reactive proteinand toll-like receptors
Sammanfattning : Platelets are proven essential in haemostasis, however, they are now also increasingly recognized as cells with important immunomodulatory properties, e.g. through interaction with leukocytes and several species of bacteria and by release inflammatory mediators upon activation. 12. Recognition molecules of the complement system: C1q and mannan-binding lectin in autoimmunity and immune defence
Sammanfattning : The C1 subcomponent C1q and the mannan-binding lectin (MBL) are recognition proteins of the complement system, and have similar structure. C1q binds to IgG and IgM and activates the classical pathway. MBL binds to carbohydrate structures and activates the lectin pathway. LÄS MER
13. SLE : pathogenetic mechanisms in nephritis and sulphasalazine-induced lupus reactions
Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with a multifactorial and largely unknown etiology, in which genetic and environmental factors are known to influence disease susceptibility and expression. Nephritis is a common and severe disease manifestation in which immune complexes and complement deposits in the renal tissue are invariably seen. LÄS MER
14. Aspects on Immune Complex Handling and Complement Deficiency in Relation to Pathogenic Mechanisms in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Sammanfattning : The autoimmune disease Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is associated with hereditary deficieny of early components from the classical pathway of complement activation, but not with deficiency of complement component C3 or of the alternative pathway components. The classical pathway is involved in elimination of pathological immune complexes from the circulation by transport via complement receptor type 1 (CR1). LÄS MER
15. IgM and Complement in Regulation of Antibody Responses
Sammanfattning : Animals deficient in complement components C1q, C4, C3, and CR1/2 have severely impaired antibody responses. C1q is primarily activated by antibody-antigen complexes. Antigen-specific IgM in complex with an antigen is able to enhance the antibody response against that antigen. This is dependent on the ability of IgM to activate complement. LÄS MER
