  1. 1. Characterization of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli water isolates

    Författare :Anna Nilsson; Hilpi Rautelin; Astrid Skarp; Cecilia Johansson; Mikael Skurnik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; C. jejuni; C. coli; C.coli clade 2; C. coli clade 3; waterborne pathogens; whole genome sequencing; water survival; pathogenic potential; phenotypical identification; Klinisk bakteriologi; Clinical Bacteriology; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Campylobacter jejuni and C. coli are together the most common cause of bacterial gastroenteritis in the European Union. Campylobacter can be transmitted to humans via contaminated water, but it is largely unknown how these bacteria survive in water. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Epidemiology and population structure of Campylobacter jejuni and related organisms in wild birds

    Författare :Jonas Waldenström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; epidemiology; Campylobacter lari; population structure; Helicobacter canadensis; Ecology; Parasitology human and animal ; Animal ecology; Djurekologi; Parasitologi människa och djur ; migration; Ekologi; wild birds; Sweden; Campylobacter jejuni;

    Sammanfattning : Campylobacter jejuni is one of the most common causes to bacterial gastroenteritis in the industrialised world. Also other species of the Campylobacter genus give rise to human infections. C. jejuni occurs in many different animal hosts and can be isolated from water sources. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Amoebae as Hosts and Vectors for Spread of Campylobacter jejuni

    Författare :Jenny Olofsson; Patrik Ellström; Björn Olsen; Diana Axelsson-Olsson; Hans Lindmark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Amoebae-Bacteria interactions; Campylobacter jejuni; epidemiology; environmental stress; low pH; Acanthamoeba; coculture; intracellular trafficking; bacterial survival; beverages; ACC-method; enrichment; genetic stability; Trojan horse; reservoir; host; vector; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Sammanfattning : Campylobacter jejuni is the leading bacterial cause of gastrointestinal diarrheal disease in humans worldwide. This zoonotic pathogen has a complex epidemiology due to its presence in many different host organisms. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterization of Camplyobacter jejuni and C. coli from Swedish patients and chickens - antibiotic resistance, genomic diversity and detection

    Författare :Anna-Clara Rönner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Campylobacter jejuni is a Gram-negative, non-spore forming bacterium, which is currently the most common pathogen causing reported cases of food poisoning in Sweden, as well as in most other industrialized countries. Eating or drinking something containing these bacteria is often determined to be the source of infection and as few as 500 bacteria can be enough to cause illness. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Host-pathogen interactions during Campylobacter and Yersinia infections

    Författare :Nayyer Taheri; Anna Fahlgren; Maria Fällman; Sun Nyunt Wai; Elena Vikström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Campylobacter jejuni; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; OMV; bile; temperature; proteomic;

    Sammanfattning : The innate immune system is known for protecting the host against invading pathogens, for instance enteropathogens infecting the gastrointestinal tract. The production of e.g. antimicrobial peptides, cytokines, and chemokines by innate immune cells and intestinal epithelial cells contribute to bacterial clearance. LÄS MER
