1. C-reactive protein (CRP) and anti-CRP autoantibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus : a study on the occurrence and clinical implications of anti-CRP antibodies and CRP-mediated complement activation
Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of a wide range of autoantibodies, multiple organ involvement and by local formation or tissue deposition of immune complexes (ICs) in the inflamed organs. In contrast to most systemic inflammatory conditions, and despite raised levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, SLE flares are rarely reflected by elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), an important acute-phase reactant in man with homologs in vertebrates and several invertebrates. 2. Canine C-reactive protein : validation of two automated canine-specific C-reactive protein assays and studies on clinical and research applications
Sammanfattning : C-reactive protein (CRP) is a sensitive and specific marker of systemic inflammation in dogs, valuable for diagnosing and monitoring inflammatory diseases. The use of CRP in canine medicine has however been hampered by the lack of automated assays optimized for measuring CRP in this species. LÄS MER
3. C-reactive protein in clinical practice with special regard to infectious diseases
Sammanfattning : A new simple affinity purification methodfor human CRP using Arginine-Sepharose4B was developed with a recovery of >90 %and containing < 5-10 % contaminatingproleins .In a multicenter study including 607consecutive patients in general practice, erythrocyte sedimen-tation rate (ESR) andserum CRP were compared. 4. The significance of low-grade inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract
Sammanfattning : BackgroundGastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are commonly reported in a normal population. Mostly, the symptoms are of benign cause but occasionally the symptoms can be signs of a more harmful disease. In general, it is difficult to distinguish whether the reported symptoms are caused by a benign (functional) or organic (i.e. LÄS MER
5. Rules of Thumb and Management of Common Infections in General Practice
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with problem solving of general practitioners (GPs), which is explored with different methods and from different perspectives. The general aim was to explore and describe rules of thumb and to analyse the management of respiratory and urinary tract infections (RTI and UTI) in general practice in Sweden. LÄS MER
