  1. 1. Modulation of Autoimmunity by Linomide treatment or interference with costimulation

    Författare :Annamaria C Tellander; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; Cytology; collagen-induced arthritis; CD28; CD40; antigen presenting cells; Linomide; thymocytes; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : Linomide is a potent immunomodulator that has been shown to inhibit autoimmunity in several animal models of autoimmune disease. We have approached the cellular and molecular mechanism of Linomide by investigating its effect on thymocyte development and its capacity to modulate the expression of activation markers on antigen presenting cells (APCs). 2. 2. The immunomodulatory properties of C-Med 100 an extract of the plant Uncaria tomentosa

    Författare :Christina Silver; Diabetes - immunovirologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; serology; Immunology; survival; proliferation; inhibition; NF-kB; Uncaria tomentosa; quinic acid;

    Sammanfattning : Extracts from the bark of the vine Uncaria tomentosa have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antimutagenic and antioxidant effects. In this study, we evaluate the effects of an Uncaria tomentosa extract, denoted C-Med 100, on the cellular level of the immune system both in vivo and in vitro. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Biomarker Discovery in Cancer using Affinity Proteomics - Studies of B-cell lymphomas and Breast Cancer

    Författare :Frida Pauly; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteomics; affinity proteomics; antibody microarray; cancer; B-cell lymphoma; breast cancer; biomarker discovery;

    Sammanfattning : The continual increase in incidence of cancer has created an urgent need for improved methods for diagnosis, prognosis and/or treatment. In this context, the field of biomarker research has expanded immensely during the last few years. This thesis, based on four original papers, revolves around protein biomarker discovery in cancer. 4. 4. The role of the MAP- and SAP- kinase pathways in the survival, proliferation and death of Schwann cells of the injured sciatic nerve

    Författare :Lisa Mårtensson; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns alterations in signal transduction in Schwann cells as a response to nerve injury as well as their survival, proliferation and death. Enzymes and transcription factors belonging to the mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) and the stress activated protein kinase (SAPK) pathways were studied. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Viperin vs. tick-borne encephalitis virus : mechanism of a potent antiviral protein

    Författare :Kirstin Vonderstein; Anna Överby Wernstedt; Magnus Evander; Sonja Best; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tick-borne encephalitis virus; TBEV; type-I interferon; IFN; Interferon-stimulated gene; ISG; viperin; GBF1; CIAO1; antiviral protein; genome replication; particle release; capsid;

    Sammanfattning : Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is a very important virus medically, causing mild or severe encephalitis often with long-lasting sequelae. Treatment of tick-borne encephalitis is limited to supportive care, and antiviral drugs are much needed.The type-I interferon (IFN) system is the first line of host defense against many viruses.
