16. ”De två kulturerna” flyttar hemifrån : C.P. Snows begrepp i svensk idédebatt 1959–2005
17. Äreminnen : Personmedaljer och social status i Sverige, cirka 1650–1900
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this dissertation is to study the waning of premodern ideas about society by investigating the ways in which social status was conceived. Analyses of linguistic expressions and negotiations of status are used to study changes in how different social groups related and acted on one another, what changed, and what remained constant as premodernity gave way to modernity. 18. Evasion and Attack: Structural Studies of a Bacterial Albumin-binding Protein and of a Cephalosporin Biosynthetic Enzyme
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the crystal structures of two proteins in the context of combatting bacterial infections. The GA module is a bacterial albumin-binding domain from a surface protein expressed by pathogenic strains of the human commensal bacterium Finegoldia magna. LÄS MER
19. Phase Phenomena in Polymer Networks : Empirical Studies on the Influence of Hydrophobicity, Charge Density and Crosslinks on Macroion-Induced Phase Transitions in Polyelectrolyte Gels
Sammanfattning : The thesis concerns polyelectrolyte gels in contact with oppositely charged proteins and surfactant micelles, and includes of four papers (I-IV). In paper I confocal Raman spectroscopy was introduced as a method to trace micelles and investigate the structure of gel-surfactant complexes, in phase separated gel spheres. LÄS MER
20. Control Mechanisms of Electron and Proton Transfer in Cytochrome c Oxidase
Sammanfattning : Cytochrome c oxidase is a remarkable molecular machine that is bound in the inner mitochondrial membrane or in the cell membrane of bacteria. Using the free energy that is released when electrons from foodstuff are transferred to molecular oxygen, protons are translocated from the inner to the outer side of the membrane. LÄS MER
