1. Local structure and composition : in additively manufactured bulk metallic glasses and composites
Sammanfattning : Additive manufacturing enables the production of complex multi-material geometries and bulk metallic glass parts beyond their critical casting thickness. The local modification of structure, composition, and properties is explored in this thesis with the aim to design novel composite materials and functional gradients. LÄS MER
2. Cohesive and Spectroscopic properties of the Lanthanides within the Hubbard I Approximation
Sammanfattning : We describe the rare-earth elements using the Hubbard I approximation. We show that the theory reproduces the cohesive properties, like the volume and bulk modulus, and we find an excellent agreement between theory and experiment for the (inverse) photo emission spectra of the valence band. 3. Relating the Bulk and Interface Structure of Hyaluronan to Physical Properties of Future Biomaterials
Sammanfattning : This dissertation describes a structural investigation of hyaluronan (HA) with neutron scattering techniques. HA is a natural biopolymer and one of the major components of the extracellular matrix, synovial fluid, and vitreous humor. LÄS MER
4. Eastern equatorial Pacific bulk sediment properties and paleoceanography since the late Neogene
Sammanfattning : Reconstructing eastern equatorial Pacific (EEP) oceanography since the late Neogene (about 8 million years ago, Ma) is a central topic in current paleoceanographic investigations. The reason for this is two-fold. LÄS MER
5. Materials prepared using graphite oxides : properties and applications
Sammanfattning : Graphite oxides are hydrophilic materials, which have attracted a lot of attention due to unique properties and possible applications. The current thesis includes studies of fundamental properties and applications of graphite oxides as well as materials prepared from graphite oxides such as graphene oxide membranes, defect-rich graphite oxide, reduced graphene oxide and activated reduced graphene oxide.
