16. Out of the Dark and into the Light - Microscopic Analysis of Bright, Dark and Trapped Excitons
Sammanfattning : Atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have been in the focus of current research due to their efficient light-matter interaction, as well as the remarkably strong Coulomb interaction that leads to tightly bound excitons. Due to their unique band structure, TMDs show a variety of optically accessible bright and inaccessible dark excitons. LÄS MER
17. Photoelectric broad- and narrowband photometry of bright early- and late-type stars, with a discussion of their absolute magnitudes and intrinsic colours

18. Transmission Electron Microscopy of Graphene and Hydrated Biomaterial Nanostructures : Novel Techniques and Analysis
Sammanfattning : Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) on light element materials and soft matters is problematic due to electron irradiation damage and low contrast. In this doctoral thesis techniques were developed to address some of those issues and successfully characterize these materials at high resolution. LÄS MER
19. Enhanced Polarizing Neutron Optics with 11B4C Incorporation : SLD Tunability, Interface Refinement, and Elimination of Magnetic Coercivity
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores novel strategies for improving Fe-based polarizing neutron optics, a critical part for improving neutron scattering methods to study materials science, physics, biology, medicine, chemistry and cultural heritage. Polarization analysis is important in uncovering data on magnetic domains, protein structures, molecular composition and orientation in biological systems, and ion-diffusion mechanisms that would otherwise be inaccessible. 20. Aposematism, Crypsis and Population Differentiation in the Strawberry Poison Frog
Sammanfattning : Evolutionary transitions between the two major predator avoidance strategies aposematism and crypsis are expected to be associated with changes in many important traits of animals. However, empirical studies on populations experiencing ongoing or recent transitions between these strategies are rare. LÄS MER
