21. Predictors of Lymph Node Metastasis in Primary Breast Cancer - Risk Models for Tailored Axillary Management
Sammanfattning : Most patients with breast cancer present with low-risk tumors, node-negative disease, and excellent prognosis. For these patients, routine axillary nodal staging by sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has no therapeutic benefit. For patients with limited sentinel lymph node metastasis, completion axillary nodal dissection is controversial. LÄS MER
22. Genetic factors, body constitution, and tumor characteristics in relation to breast cancer prognosis
Sammanfattning : Prior advancements in research on biomarkers and prognostic host factors have made it increasingly clear that breast cancer is an immensely heterogeneous disease. It remains difficult to predict which patients will benefit from different breast cancer treatments. Hence, interest in personalized medicine is internationally wide-spread and growing. LÄS MER
23. Molecular markers reflecting malignant transformation and tumor progression
Sammanfattning : The early detection of neoplastic lesions is most critical in the successful treatment of malignant disease. This thesis investigates molecular targets for an improved detection and diagnosis of cancer by exploring the value of interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to detect specific chromosomal aneuploidies and gene amplifications, and laminin-5 gamma2 chain expression detected by immunohistochemistry as a marker for invasiveness. 24. Integrative genomic and survival analysis of breast tumors
Sammanfattning : With the continued accumulation of genomic data at ever increasing resolution the challenge ahead lies in reading out meaningful clinical/biological information form the data that can contribute to a better understanding of the cancerous process. The need for novel approaches, new statistical methods is therefore strong. LÄS MER
25. Receptor tyrosine kinases and circulating tumor cells as new prognostic biomarkers in breast cancer with special focus on TNBC
Sammanfattning : About 8000 Swedish women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and around 1500 die from the disease. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) constitutes 7-14% of all breast cancer and is characterized by an aggressive phenotype with poor prognosis and no targeted therapy available. LÄS MER
