  1. 1. MicroRNAs in Cardiometabolic Disease. With a Focus on miR-483-5p

    Författare :Widet Gallo; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MicroRNAs; miR-483-5p; diabetes; cardiovascular disease; BMI; Branched-chain amino acids; lifestyle; obesity;

  2. 2. The effects of haemodialysis and metabolic acidosis on protein metabolism

    Författare :Erland Löfberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :haemodialysis; metabolic acidosis; skeletal muscle; protein metabolism; amino acids; branched-chain amino acids; flooding dose; ribosomes; glucocorticoids;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic renal failure and uraemia are characterised by gradual loss of renal function with an accumulation of metabolic and toxic waste products as well as disturbances in several organs and hormone functions. Two factors affect the catabolism in renal failure - i.e., the haemodialysis procedure and metabolic acidosis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of exercise and amino acid intake on mechanisms regulating protein synthesis and breakdown in human muscle

    Författare :Marcus Moberg; Eva Blomstrand; Hans-Christer Holmberg; Jørgen Jensen; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Resistance exercise; concurrent exericse; leucine; BCAA; mTORC1 signaling; protein synthesis; MuRF-1; PGC-1alpha; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Skeletal muscle adapts differently to specific modes of exercise, where resistance training results in muscle growth and endurance training induces mitochondrial biogenesis. These are results of molecular events that occur after each exercise session, increasing the expression of specific genes and the rate of both synthesis and breakdown of protein. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies of ischemia and reperfusion in muscle and liver on glutathione and amino acid metabolism in man

    Författare :Bo Westman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Oxidative stress increases the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can induce damage and breakdown of enzymes and lipoproteins. This leads to impaired cellular function and ultimately to death of cells and eventually organ failure. ROS are thought to be responsible for the damage during reperfusion following ischemia. 5. 5. Malnutrition in patients with chronic renal failure

    Författare :Abdul Rashid Tony Qureshi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :chronic renal failure; malnutrition; serum albumin; hand-grip strength; amino acids; inflammation;

    Sammanfattning : Protein-energy malnutrition is common in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) and may contribute to a poor clinical outcome. However, the role of nutrition in this regard has not been clearly defined. LÄS MER
