  1. 1. Towards enhanced mechanical braking systems for trains. Thermomechanical capacity of wheel treads at stop braking

    Författare :Mandeep Singh Walia; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; finite element analysis; full-scale brake rig testing; tread braking; rolling contact fatigue; high temperature fatigue; Railway wheels; stop braking;

    Sammanfattning : Modern trains are equipped with different braking systems, between which the braking effort can be distributed. Among these, tread braking is still the most common system for friction braking. Tread brake systems are cheap and robust. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Improving emergency braking performance of heavy vehicles

    Författare :Leon Henderson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; heavy vehicles; pneumatic brake actuator; ABS; pneumatic braking system; Slip control braking; HGV; vehicle testing; tyre dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : Previous studies by the Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium (CVDC) have suggested that, by improving the control bandwidth of conventional Heavy Goods Vehicle(HGV) brake actuators and using a ‘slip control’ braking strategy, HGV stopping distances could be reduced by up to 30% over existing systems. The work covered in this thesis looks to: validate the CVDC’s previous braking performance predictions through Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation, investigate how in-plane tyre dynamics may influence such a system’s performance, develop and build a next generation high-bandwidth braking system for vehicle implementation and carry out comparative back-to-back vehicle tests between the new system and commercially available HGV ABS. 3. 3. Muscle Responses of Car Occupants: Numerical Modeling and Volunteer Experiments under Pre-Crash Braking Conditions

    Författare :Jonas Östh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; feedback postural control; autonomous braking; electromyography; active muscle; anticipatory postural control; seat belt pre-tension; driver braking; human body model; finite element; occupant kinematics;

    Sammanfattning : Over 30 000 fatalities related to the road transport system are reported anually in Europe. Of these fatalities, the largest share is car occupants, even though significant improvements in vehicle safety have been achieved by the implementation of in-crash restraints and pre-crash driver support systems. 4. 4. The development of methods for detection and assessment of safety critical events in car driving

    Författare :Omar Bagdadi; Andras Varhelyi; Nicolas Saunier; Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Near miss; Braking; Driving veh ; Driver; Behaviour; Tillbud; Bromsning; Fordonskörning; Förare; Beteende; Road: Road user behaviour; Road: Road user behaviour; Crash involvement; jerk; safety critical event;

    Sammanfattning : Improving our knowledge of drivers’ behaviour, especially in hazardous situations is a key to understanding why accidents occur and how to improve safety on our roads. Crash surrogate measures have proven to be very useful in traffic safety analysis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On Traffic Situation Predictions for Automated Driving of Long Vehicle Combinations

    Författare :Peter Nilsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; braking; steering; heavy trucks; automated driving; long vehicle combination; active safety; vehicle dynamics; prediction; driver behaviour;

    Sammanfattning : The introduction of longer vehicle combinations for road transports than are currently allowed is an important viable option for achieving the environmental goals on transported goods in Sweden and Europe by the year 2030. This thesis addresses how driver assistance functionality for high-speed manoeuvring can be designed and realized for prospective long vehicle combinations. LÄS MER
