  1. 11. It's All in the Brain : A Theory of the Qualities of Perception

    Författare :Jesper Östman; Pär Sundström; Howard Robinson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Philosophy of perception; philosophy of consciousness; hallucination; phenomenal qualities; qualia; sense data; physicalism; Russell; disjunctivism; representationalism; brain theory; color; the brain; Theoretical Philosophy; teoretisk filosofi;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation concerns the location and nature of phenomenal qualities. Arguably, these qualities naively seem to belong to perceived external objects. However, we also seem to experience phenomenal qualities in hallucinations, and in hallucinations we do not perceive any external objects. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Analysis of Human Brain MRI : Contributions to Regional Volume Studies

    Författare :Richard Nordenskjöld; Joel Kullberg; Elna-Marie Larsson; Lars Johansson; Håkan Ahlström; Göran Starck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MRI; Brain; Volume; Hemisphere; Intracranial volume; Image analysis; Computerized Image Analysis; Datoriserad bildanalys;

    Sammanfattning : Many disorders are associated with regional brain volumes. The analysis of these volumes from MR images often requires sequential processing steps such as localization and delineation. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Intracranial Pressure in Traumatic Brain Injury

    Författare :Sima Shahsavari; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Brain Swelling; Cerebral Autoregulation; Secondary Brain Injury; Traumatic Brain Injury; Cerebral Compliance; Intracranial Dynamics; Intracranial Pressure;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) continues to be a major problem worldwide. Today, intensive care of patients with TBI is mainely focused on preventing and treating secondary brain injuries. High pressure inside the intracranial cavity (ICP) has been found to be an important feature of disturbed cerebral dynamics and secondary injuries. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Signal transduction in the brain : modulation of receptor-mediated inositol phospholipid breakdown by potassium and fluoride ions

    Författare :Gunnar Tiger; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inositol phospholipid breakdown; muscarinic receptors; potassium; fluoride; rat brain; pig brain;

    Sammanfattning : Neurotransmitter receptor types mediating the generation of intracellular signals are of two types; ligand-gated ion channels and G protein coupled receptors. The effector enzyme phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) is modulated by stimulation of G protein coupled receptors, leading to an increased breakdown of inositol phospholipids ("Ptdlns breakdown"). 5. 15. Modeling glioblastoma heterogeneity to decipher its biology

    Författare :Yuan Xie; Lene Uhrbom; Massimo Squatrito; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma multiforme; biobank; GBM cells; cell of origin; LGR5; OPCs;

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and lethal form of primary brain tumor that mainly affects adults. GBM displays remarkable intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity and contains a subpopulation of cells named glioma stem cells that is believed to be responsible for tumor maintenance, progression and recurrence.
