6. Neurogenesis from Neural Stem Cells, Ependymal Cells and Fibroblasts
Sammanfattning : Stroke is a major cause of death and disability around the world. Stroke leads to loss of neurons and also other cells in the brain due to lack of blood supply. Currently no therapies are available to treat stroke-related disability. It has been shown that stroke leads to increased neurogenesis, birth of new neurons, within the brain. LÄS MER
7. Integration and function of new neurons generated from fibroblasts and adult neural stem cells in the pathological brain
Sammanfattning : In Papers One through Six we have investigated the function and integration of “new” neurons – new neurons born from neural stem cells in the adult brain, and new neurons in the sense that they were generated from fibroblasts. Papers One and Two focused on the new neurons generated from neural stem cells in the SVZ and SGZ after pathological insults. LÄS MER
8. Induction of the cytoskeletal protein radixin in the adult brain
Sammanfattning : Abstract Neural stem and progenitor cells (NSPCs) proliferate throughout life in two regions of the brain, namely the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricles and the subgranular zone of dentate gyrus in the hippocampus. In the adult SVZ, NSPCs give rise to neuroblasts that leave the SVZ for long distance migration along the rostral migratory stream (RMS), on their way to the olfactory bulb where they mature and are integrated in the neural network. 9. Human neural stem cells: region-specific properties and prospects for cell therapy
Sammanfattning : Cell replacement by neural transplantation can, in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases, reconstruct damaged brain circuitry. In the clinical situation, the graft material used for cell therapy must, most likely, be of human origin. LÄS MER
10. NEURAL STEM/PROGENITOR CELLS IN THE POST-ISCHEMIC ENVIRONMENT: Proliferation, Differentiation and Neuroprotection
Sammanfattning : Stroke is one of the leading causes of chronic disability and death in the Western world. Today, no treatment can repair the cellular loss associated with an ischemic lesion. LÄS MER
