  1. 1. Distribution and Long-term Effects of the Environmental Neurotoxin β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) : Brain changes and behavioral impairments following developmental exposure

    Författare :Oskar Karlsson; Eva Brittebo; Nils Gunnar Lindquist; Erika Roman; Sandra Ceccatelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ALS PDC; Guam; Developmental neurotoxicity; Brain growth spurt; Behavior; Nonprotein amino acid; Excitotoxic; Cyanobacteria; Apoptosis; BMAA; environmental toxin; Algal blooming; Algblomning; algtoxin; alggift; hjärnutveckling; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many cyanobacteria are reported to produce the nonprotein amino acid β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA). Cyanobacteria are extensively distributed in terrestrial and aquatic environments and recently BMAA was detected in temperate aquatic ecosystems, e.g. the Baltic Sea. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Proteomic Characterization of Induced Developmental Neurotoxicity

    Författare :Henrik Alm; Lennart Dencker; R Stuart Cobb; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteomics; Brain Development; Neurotoxicity; 2D-DIGE; Brain Growth Spurt; Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether; Neonatal; Striatum; Hippocampus; Cerebral Cortex; Parkinsonism; Dyskinesia; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The developing brain goes through a number of developmental periods during which it displays an increased sensitivity to exogenous disturbances. On such period is the so called “Brain growth spurt” (BGS) which in humans takes place starting from the third trimester of pregnancy and throughout the first few years of life. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Developmental neurotoxicity of persistent and non-persistent pollutants : Behavioral and neurochemical assessments of a perfluorinated compound, pesticides and interaction effects

    Författare :Iwa Lee; Henrik Viberg; Per Eriksson; William Mundy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Brain; Neonatal; Mixtures; Cholinergic system; Organochlorines; Pyrethroids; Organophosphates; Carbamates; Insecticides; PFCs; PFAAs; PFHxS; Endosulfan; Cypermethrin; Chlorpyrifos; Carbaryl; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis was to investigate developmental neurotoxic effects of different persistent and non-persistent environmental pollutants, alone or in binary mixtures, when exposure occurs during a critical period of brain development, in mice. The compounds investigated included a perfluorinated compound, perfluorohexane sulphonate (PFHxS), and four different pesticides, endosulfan, cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos and carbaryl. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Neurodevelopmental Consequences of Exposure to Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) and Related Drugs : Experimental studies in mice

    Författare :Gaëtan Philippot; Robert Fredriksson; Vesna Jevtovic-Todorovic; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; paracetamol acetaminophen ; developmental neurotoxicology; delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol THC ; ibuprofen; endocannabinoid system; neonatal mice; brain growth spurt; behavior; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is the analgesic pharmaceutical most commonly used during pregnancy and early life. While therapeutic doses of paracetamol are considered harmless during these periods, recent findings in both humans and rodents suggest a link between developmental exposure to paracetamol and behavioral consequences later in life. 5. 5. Transcriptomics and Proteomics Applied to Developmental Toxicology

    Författare :Kim Kultima; Lennart Dencker; Timothy Gant; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Toxicology; 2D-DIGE; Valproic acid; PBDE-99; Flame retardant; Neural tube defects; Microarray; In vivo; In vitro; Biomarker; Brain growth spurt; Normalization; Mouse embryo; Toxicogenomics; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Developmental toxicology is an important part of preclinical drug toxicology as well as environmental toxicology. Assessing reproductive and developmental toxicity is especially expensive and time demanding, since at least two generations of animals are needed in the tests. LÄS MER
