  1. 6. Molecular and structural patterns of guided bone regeneration (GBR). Experimental studies on the role of GBR membrane and bone substitute materials

    Författare :Ibrahim Elgali; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regenerative medicine; biomaterials; bone substitute; calcium phosphate; guided bone regeneration; membrane; strontium; bone defect; bone remodeling; inflammation; cytokines; chemokines; growth factors; gene expression; histomorphometry; in vivo;

    Sammanfattning : The mechanisms of guided bone regeneration (GBR) and bone healing with calcium phosphate (CaP) bone substitutes are not fully understood. The major aim of this thesis was to determine the relationship between the bone formation in bone defects and the cellular distribution and activities in association with CaP materials and/or with GBR membrane. 2. 7. Bone and Aluminium

    Författare :Hans-Olov Hellström; Karl Michaëlsson; Hans Mallmin; Olle Svensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Surgery; Aluminium; Osteoporosis; Hip fracture; Osteoporotic fracture; Alzheimer´s dementia; Bone mineral density; Bone mineral content; Mortality risk; Biomechanics; Inductively coupled mass spectrometry; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoporosis is a major health care problem, by reason of its devastating consequences, in particular hip fractures. Worldwide it has been estimated that the incidence of hip fracture will increase to more than 6 million per year by 2050 compared to 1.7 million per year in 1990. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Altered body composition in adults with complex congenital heart disease

    Författare :Karna Johansson; Camilla Sandberg; Bengt Johansson; Thomas Mooe; Mats Börjesson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adults with complex congenital heart disease; ACHD; body composition; skeletal muscle; lean mass; muscular strength; sarcopenia; bone; bone mass; bone mineral density; bone health; osteoporosis; fat; fat mass; obesity; Vuxna med medfödda hjärtfel; vuxna med komplexa medfödda hjärtfel; komplexa medfödda hjärtfel; kroppssammansättning; skelettmuskel; styrka; sarkopeni; ben; benmassa; bendensitet; osteoporos; fett; fettmassa; obesitas; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Thanks to achievements in paediatric heart surgery and medicine, the population of adults with surgically repaired or palliated congenital heart defects is growing. Many of these adults have reduced exercise capacity, weaker muscular strength and shorter height, all of which suggest an altered body composition. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Changes in bone mass and skeletal structure in the postmenopausal period

    Författare :Henrik Ahlborg; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; hormone replacement therapy.; physical activity; bone strength; bone size; bone loss; longitudinal; Menopause; bone mineral density; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate long-term changes in bone mass and skeletal structure in the forearm in the peri- and postmenopausal period. 156 premenopausal women, at baseline aged 48 years, not taking medications and without disease processes known to interfere with bone metabolism, were followed through menopause by measurements of bone mass and skeletal structure at the cortical site of the distal radius by single photon absorptiometry, on average every second year until age 72. 5. 10. Osteoprotegerin in Bone Metabolism

    Författare :Helena Brändström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Bone; osteoprotegerin; osteoblasts; polymorphism; cytokines; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Bone turnover, remodeling, is a constant process replacing old bone with new. This complex cellular event involves resorption by osteoclasts and formation of new bone by osteoblasts. The balance between osteoblastic and osteoclastic activity is under regulation by several endocrine and paracrine factors. LÄS MER
