6. Bone-compliant cements for vertebral augmentation
Sammanfattning : Acrylic bone cement based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is commonly used during vertebral augmentation procedures for the treatment of osteoporosis-induced vertebral compression fractures. However, the high stiffness of the cement compared to that of the surrounding trabecular bone is presumed to facilitate the formation of new fractures shortly after surgery. LÄS MER
7. Can Bone Void Fillers Carry Load? : Behaviour of Calcium Phosphate Cements Under Different Loading Scenarios
Sammanfattning : Calcium phosphate cements (CPCs) are used as bone void fillers and as complements to hardware in fracture fixation. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the possibilities and limitations of the CPCs’ mechanical properties, and find out if these ceramic bone cements can carry application-specific loads, alone or as part of a construct. 8. The bone cement implantation syndrome - epidemiology, pathophysiology and prevention
Sammanfattning : Bone cementation implantation syndrome (BCIS) has significant morbidity and mortality for patients who are undergoing cemented hip hemiarthroplasty or arthroplasty. The aim of this thesis is to contribute with information of the epidemiological parameters of BCIS and identify risk factors. LÄS MER
9. Fixation of the cemented acetabular component in hip arthroplasty
Sammanfattning : In total hip arthroplasty cemented fixation of the acetabular component is a generally successful concept, but the rate of aseptic loosening and consequent revision surgery is still too high. One of the crucial factors for longterm implant survival is the initial fixation and stability. LÄS MER
10. On Fixation of Hip Prostheses
Sammanfattning : This thesis, comprising 5 separate studies, is concerned with fixation of prosthetic components in total hip arthroplasty. The results and conclusions of the studies fol-low;The initial stability of femoral revision components, the long cementless PCA stem and the Exeter standard stem cemented in a bed of impacted bone graft, was com-pared in an experimental study.
