  1. 1. Anaerobic Digestion of Solid Residues on the Bolivian Altiplano

    Författare :Rene Alvarez; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; Altiplano; renewable energy; temperature fluctuation; low temperature; farm-scale digestion; manure; solid residues; Anaerobic Digestion; biogas;

    Sammanfattning : Anaerobic digestion and the production of biogas can provide an efficient means of meeting energy needs locally and reducing organic loading due to untreated waste material in water recipients. Furthermore, residues after anaerobic digestion may be used as a fertilizer to improve the soil in many parts of the world. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Hydrogeochemistry and spatial variability of arsenic and other trace elements in the Lower Katari Basin around Lake Titicaca, Bolivian Altiplano. : Impact on drinking water quality and groundwater management

    Författare :Israel Quino Lima; Prosun Bhattacharya; Jerker Jarsjö; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arsenic; trace elements; multivariate analysis; spatial variability; hydrogeology; spatio-temporal variability; Lower Katari Basin; Bolivian Altiplano; alluvial sediments; Arsenik; spårelement; multivariat analys; rumslig variabilitet; hydrogeologi; spatio-temporär variation; Nedre Katari-bassängen; Bolivian Altiplano; alluviala sediment; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Arsenic (As) contamination in drinking water is a world-wide problem. Thenatural origin of As, its mobility and transport are of great interest in BolivianAltiplano (Lower Katari Basin: LKB and Sothern Poopó Basin: SPB) due topresence of mineral ore deposits, brines, hot springs and volcanic rocks. 3. 3. Addressing water scarcity in the Bolivian Altiplano for sustainable water management

    Författare :Claudia Canedo Rosso; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Climatology; climate modes; Drought; Water balance; ENSO; Soil moisture; crop yield; Remote sensing; Bolivian highlands; arid and semiarid regions; Climate anomaly;

    Sammanfattning : Water scarcity is a consequence of complex interactions between water access and water use. In fact, the time period over which precipitation deficit accumulates is a determing factor for the occurrence of drought. Drought induces crop production losses and far-reaching societal effects. In the South American Altiplano, drought is a major hazard. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Geochemistry of Trace Elements in the Bolivian Altiplano : Effects of natural processes and anthropogenic activities

    Författare :Oswaldo Eduardo Ramos Ramos; Prosun Bhattacharya; Jorge Quintanilla; Roger Thunvik; Jochen Bundshuh; Maria Eugenia Garcia Moreno; Luiz R.G. Guilherme; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arsenic; Bolivian Altiplano; Eastern Cordillera; Trace elements; Surface water and shallow groundwater; Soils and crops.; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The occurrence of As in groundwater in Argentina was known since 1917; however, the occurrence, distribution and mobilization of As and other trace elements (TEs) in groundwater in the Bolivian Altiplano are still quite unknown. An investigation applying a geochemical approach was conducted in the Poopó Basin and Lake Titicaca to understand processes of TEs in different systems such as water, soils, crops and sediments in mining areas. 5. 5. Water Resources Management efforts for best water allocation in the Lake Poopo basin, Bolivia

    Författare :Andres Calizaya; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :poverty; institutional arrangements; Bolivian Altiplano; Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis; Water conflict; Lake Poopo; IWRM strategy; local capacity building.;

    Sammanfattning : The Lake Poopo basin, located on the Bolivian Altiplano, is extremely vulnerable to environmental degradation. The basin displays extreme spatial and temporal variations of water resources and rapidly decreasing water quality due to anthropogenic and natural pollution. LÄS MER
