  1. 16. Local Adaptation, Countergradient Variation and Ecological Genetics of Life-history Traits in Rana Temporaria

    Författare :Ane Timenes Laugen; Wolf Blanckenhorn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; amphibians; Bergmanns rule; body size clines; countergradient variation; developmental rate; FST; temperature; QST; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this work was to identify local adaptation processes in amphibian populations, thereby improving the general understanding of genetics and mechanisms behind the evolution and maintenance of biological diversity. Phenotypic and genetic variation in life-history traits was studied within and between populations common frog (Rana temporaria) populations along a 1600 km transect from southern Sweden to northern Finland. 2. 17. Solitons, vortices and shell structure in ultracold atomic quantum systems

    Författare :Gunnar Eriksson; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; few-body physics; finite-size effects; solitary waves; quantized vortices; quantum hysteresis; shell structure; dipolar interactions; Fysicumarkivet A:2020:Eriksson;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation deals with finite-size effects in a few different quantum many-body phenomena in ultracold atomic systems. The finite-sized systems were simulated numerically using both mean-field methods and methods beyond mean-field, e.g. quadratic configuration interaction and exact diagonalization. LÄS MER

  3. 18. The evolution of sexual dimorphism and its genetic underpinnings

    Författare :Philipp Kaufmann; Elina Immonen; Tim Connallon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sexual conflict; sex-specific dominance; maintenance of genetic variance; sexual antagonism; sex chromosomes; Y haplotypes; artificial selection; sexual dimorphism; Callosobruchus maculatus; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Sexual dimorphism often constitutes the largest phenotypic variance within species but it is puzzling how sexual dimorphisms evolve because most of the genome is shared between the sexes. Sexually antagonistic (SA) selection on a shared genome sets the stage for intralocus sexual conflict. LÄS MER

  4. 19. New Insights into the Evolution of Bryozoa- An Integrative Approach

    Författare :Judith Fuchs; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Ectoprocta; moss animal; systematics; phylogeny; barcode; COI; gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : Bryozoa is a group of aquatic, sessile invertebrates with circumglobal distribution and includes about 6000 recent species. Bryozoans have an indirect life cycle with a larval stage that settles and metamorphoses into the adult. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Morphological antipredator adaptations in water fleas

    Författare :Hans Lord; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Body drag; Daphnia cristata; Reynolds number; viscosity; zooplankton; Bosmina; swimming velocity; cyclomorphosis; sexual dimorphism; head area; helmet angle; trophic condition; allometry; invertebrate predator; fish;

    Sammanfattning : Some Bosmina and Daphnia species have the ability to develop extreme morphological antipredator defences, such as long antennules, high carapaces and helmets. The relative sizes of these plastic traits may differ substantially between populations, and also between individuals within a population, between sexes and during ontogeny. LÄS MER
