  1. 1. Attenuation of Oxidative Stress, Inflammation and Colorectal Oncogenesis by Food Constituents: Ischaemia/Reperfusion Injury and Induced Colitis in Rodents

    Författare :Åsa Håkansson; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; Ischaemia Reperfusion; Rose hips; Colitis; Probiotics; Inflammation; Blueberry;

    Sammanfattning : The enteric microbiota is increasingly implicated as a central factor in the development of intestinal inflammation in humans and experimental animals, and the intestinal environment is considered important in both colorectal cancer development and modulation of mucosal immunity. Diet-induced changes in the different populations of the intestinal microbiota can be achieved by use of probiotic bacteria, dietary fibre and berries rich in phenolic compounds. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effects of Probiotics and Plant Components on Murine Experimental Colitis and Acute Liver Failure

    Författare :Nadia Osman; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; bacteriology; virology; Rose hip; Microbiology; Probiotics; Prebiotics; Liver injury; Blueberry; Gastro-enterology; Colitis; Gastroenterologi; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Acute liver failure is accompanied by a high rate of bacterial septic complications. High portal level of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) can lead to a pronounced secretion by Kupffer cells of pro-inflammatory mediators which have been shown to be early and important mediators of liver injury. 3. 3. Effects of Dietary Fibre and Probiotics on Hindgut Fermentation in Healthy Rats and in Rats with Dextran Sulphate Sodium-Induced Colitis and Colon Cancer

    Författare :Camilla Bränning; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carboxylic acids; probiotics; short-chain fatty acids; hindgut fermentation; Colonic health; prebiotics; microbiota; dietary fibre;

    Sammanfattning : The importance of colonic fermentation has been realised during recent years as it has been found to be associated with colonic health and thus the overall health of the individual. The fermentation of dietary fibre and the addition of probiotics can have positive effects on the luminal environment and the colonic microbiota. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Diet and postprandial risk markers for complications in type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Camilla Olofsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The period after a meal is complex with fluctuation in blood glucose, lipids and other metabolic responses. This may induce and/or increase inflammation and contribute to future development of diabetic complications. Prevention of complications include well-controlled disease management, including diet. 5. 5. Dynamics of Photoinduced Processes in Dye-Sensitized Nanocrystalline Semiconductor Films--Reactions in the Photoactive Part of the Grätzel Solar Cell

    Författare :Gabor Benko; Kemisk fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; supraledare; magnetisk resonans; spektroskopi; magnetiska och optiska ; egenskaper elektriska; Kondenserade materiens egenskaper:elektronstruktur; spectroscopy; relaxation; magnetic resonance; supraconductors; Kemi; Condensed matter:electronic structure; electrical; femtosecond spectroscopy; solar cells; Chemistry; excited states; photoinduced electron transfer; transition metal complexes; nanocrystalline titanium dioxide; dye sensitization; porous semiconductor film; magnetic and optical properties;

    Sammanfattning : The key materials used to convert solar energy into electricity in the Grätzel-type solar cells are dye molecules and titanium dioxide particles attached to each other. The former are similar to those in common products like purple pigments in blueberry juice, while the latter are like sunscreen, white paint, or toothpaste. LÄS MER
