16. Phosphatidylethanol - formation and degradation in blood and organs
Sammanfattning : Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) is an abnormal phospholipid formed exclusively by the action of phospholipase D (PLD) in the presence of ethanol. The degradation of PEth is slow and due to its accumulation in some cells the possibility to use PEth as marker of ethanol intake has been proposed. LÄS MER
17. Molecular Genetic Studies of the Blood Group ABO Locus in Man
Sammanfattning : The ABO blood group system is undoubtedly the most important genetic and phenotypic marker in clinical transfusion medicine. The A and B determinants are immunodominant, terminally located carbohydrate residues of glycoconjugates on erythrocytes and other cell surfaces. LÄS MER
18. Qualitative and Quantitative Assessment of Cytochromes P450 mRNA in Human : Studies in the Liver, Blood and Gastrointestinal Mucosa
Sammanfattning : Drugs and other foreign compounds must often be metabolised before they can be excreted from the body. One enzyme system that is responsible for this is the cytochrome P450 gene family (CYP). LÄS MER
19. Preoperative deposit of autologous blood. Effects on inflammatory mediators
Sammanfattning : Blood contains complex cascade systems and substances that can be activated during the processing of blood components and storage. Allogeneic blood, i.e. blood from someone else, is normally separated into components before storage and transfusion, while autologous blood (the patient s own blood) often is used as whole blood. 20. Blood-Brain Barrier Transport : Investigation of Active Efflux using Positron Emission Tomography and Modelling Studies
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the transport of exogenous molecules across the blood-brain barrier (BBB), focusing on active efflux, using positron emission tomography (PET), computer simulation and modelling. P-glycoprotein (P-gp) inhibition was studied using [11C]verapamil and [11C]hydroxyurea was investigated as a new marker for active efflux transport. LÄS MER
