  1. 6. Avian Malaria and Related Blood Parasites: Molecular Diversity, Ecology and Evolution

    Författare :Olof Hellgren; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diversity; Plasmodium; bird-migration; transmission; blackfly; host-specificity; host-preference; cytochrome b; DHFR-TS; recombination; phylogeny; Ecology; Ekologi; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Parasitology human and animal ; Haemoproteus; Leucocytozoon; Parasitologi människa och djur ; Animal ecology; Djurekologi; Natural science; Naturvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Malaria-like parasites consist of a large group of species that infects primates, rodents, bats, lizard and birds. I have focused on parasites from the genera Haemoproteus, Plasmodium and Leucocytozoon that are infecting birds. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Dynamics of Resistant Plasmodium falciparum Parasites

    Författare :Nizar Enweji; Göte Swedberg; Anna Färnert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Persistence of drug resistant Plasmodium falciparum is a major problem to management and control malaria in endemic areas. The focus of this thesis was to study the dynamics of resistant P. falciparum parasites. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Studies of Thai blood group and platelet polymorphism. Implications for malaria susceptibility

    Författare :Philaiphon Jongruamklang; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Thai; Blood group polymorphism; Human platelet antigens; Malaria susceptibility; Plasmodium falciparum;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of the thesis were to seek a better understanding of polymorphic RBC surface molecules in the Thai, and to investigate the role of certain blood groups in malarial invasion. MALDI-TOF MS was employed in Study I as an efficient method for genotyping to establish the common blood group and platelet antigen genotypes of 396 blood donors. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Causes and consequences of life-history variation : The effects of parasites, glucocorticoids, and environmental conditions in the collared flycatcher (Ficedula albicollis)

    Författare :Kevin Fletcher; Lars Gustafsson; Anders Pape Moller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Collard flycatcher; Haemosporidian blood parasite; glucocorticoid; life history;

    Sammanfattning : Life-history is the study of all the different stages of life that affect reproductive success and survival between the birth and death of an organism. The reproductive output of an organism is constrained by many things including time, resource, disease agents and environmental conditions. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Studies on Plasmodium falciparum asexual blood stage antigens : RAP-2/RSP-2 and Pf332 in focus

    Författare :Nancy Awah; Klavs Berzins; Marcel Hommel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunity; malaria; RBCs; anaemia; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The life cycle of the malaria parasite is very complex and provides a number of potential targets for vaccination. In this thesis, data on two plasmodial asexual blood stage antigens (RAP-2 and Pf332) are presented. LÄS MER
