   Sammanfattning : As high technology device patterns are continuing to move towards decreasing critical dimensions and increasing pattern density, there is a need for lithography to move in the same direction. Block copolymer (BCP) lithography is a promising technique, which has single digit nanometer resolution, has a pattern periodicity of about 7-200 nm, and easily scales up to large area at a low cost.    Sammanfattning : It has recently been established in our group that amphiphilic block copolymers consisting of a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic part can self-assemble in the presence of selective solvents (“water” and “oil”) into a variety of different solution and lyotropic liquid crystalline microstructures. The effects of the “oil” type, hydrophilic block size and hydrophobic block type on the phase behavior and microstructure of ternary isothermal copolymer - oil - water systems have been addressed in this thesis.    Sammanfattning : The block synthesis concept has been applied for the preparation of complex glycoprotein oligosaccharides. A new glycosylation method designed for block syntheses of complex oligosaccharides is described.    Sammanfattning : Internal combustion engines are used in many applications. The same engine type may have different components mounted to it depending upon its use. These engine mounted components need to be designed against fatigue in order to withstand the engine vibrations. Measured engine vibrations are commonly used as input data for fatigue estimation. NLE is associated with several clinical manifestations including skin rash, cytopenia and congenital heart block (CHB).
