1. Tuning Properties of Surfaces and Nanoscopic Objects using Dendronization and Controlled Polymerizations
Sammanfattning : In this study, dendronization and grafting via controlled polymerization techniques, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and ring-opening polymerization (ROP), have been explored. Modification of surfaces and cellulose using these techniques, which enable grafting of well-defined polymer architectures, has been investigated. LÄS MER
2. Aliphatic Polyesters for Soft Tissue Engineering : Development from Conventional Organometallic to Novel Enzymatic Catalysis
Sammanfattning : The development of macromolecules with defined structure and properties, aimed specifically for biomedical applications, has resulted in diverse biodegradable polymers with advanced architectures. Among them, aliphatic polyesters synthesized by ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactones and lactides have a leading position due to their good mechanical properties, hydrolyzability and biocompatibility. 3. Radio Frequency Power Amplifiers : Behavioral Modeling, Parameter Reduction, and Digital Predistortion
Sammanfattning : This work considers behavioral modeling, parameter-reduction, and digital predistortion of radio frequency power amplifiers. Due to the use of modern digital modulation methods, contemporary power amplifiers are frequently subjected to signals characterized by considerable bandwidths and fast changing envelopes. LÄS MER
4. Tailoring Surface Properties of Bio-Fibers via Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization
Sammanfattning : The potential use of renewable, bio-based polymers in high-technological applications has attracted great interest due to increased environmental concern. Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer resource in the world, and it has great potential to be modified to suit new application areas. LÄS MER
5. Computational modeling of the lamprey CPG : from subcellular to network level
Sammanfattning : Due to the staggering complexity of the nervous system, computer modelling is becoming one of the standard tools in the neuroscientist's toolkit. In this thesis, I use computer models on different levels of abstraction to compare hypotheses and seek un- derstanding about pattern-generating circuits (central pattern generators, or CPGs) in the lamprey spinal cord.
