  1. 26. MOLECULAR PROFILING OF UROTHELIAL CARCINOMA

    Författare :David Lindgren; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytogenetik; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; TP53; FGFR3; gene expression profiling; microarray; bladder cancer; urothelial carcinoma; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to molecularly characterize urothelial carcinoma (UC) at the transcriptional level using gene expression microarrays to improve the classification and pathogenetic understanding of this disease. In the first two studies (Articles I and II), gene expression profiling was used to study dysregulated transcriptional networks in a large cohort of UCs. LÄS MER

  2. 27. T cells in solid tumors : investigating the immunomodulation in the tumor microenvironment

    Författare :Ciputra Adijaya Hartana; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The immune system protects human from cancer through an immunosurveillance mechanism. However, the progressive nature of tumor cells to differentiate and the complexity of the tumor microenvironment may result in the immunomodulation of immune cells. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Formation and role of nitric oxide in host defense reactions in the urinary bladder

    Författare :Edward R I Morcos; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :bladder cancer; BCG; cytokines; urinary tract infection; nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; nitrite; nitrate; capillary electrophoresis;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is an important biological mediator and cell signaling molecule. It is also involved in several host defense reactions. NO is formed in vivo from L-arginine by the enzyme NO synthase (NOS). However, it can also be formed non-enzymatically from acidified nitrite. LÄS MER

  4. 29. The prognostic significance of uPA, uPAR an d the cytokine IL-1-alpha in urinary bladder cancer

    Författare :Maria Seddighzadeh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Urinary bladder cancer; urokinase; urokinase receptor; interleukin-1;

    Sammanfattning : Tumor invasion and metastasis are the major causes of cancer-related death. Proteases are important for the invasive and metastatic propensities of tumors. We have studied the mechanism underlying endogenous expression of the serine protease urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) by human breast cancer cells. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Human milk as a source of tumor killing molecules. From MAL to HAMLET

    Författare :Anki Mossberg; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alphalactalbumin; human milk; Protein folding; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : HAMLET (Human alphalactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells), a complex between the partially unfolded alphalactalbumin and oleic acid, was discovered by serendipity when anti-adhesive properties of human milk were examined. HAMLET kills tumor cells but not healthy differentiated cells. LÄS MER
