11. Platinum-free Electrocatalysts : Design, Synthesis, and Energy Applications
Sammanfattning : Pt is one of the most commonly used catalysts for green energy applications, such as fuel cells, electrolyzers, and dye-sensitized solar cells. Although enormous effort has been put into improving the catalytic activity and minimizing the usage of Pt in the catalysts, the low abundance and high price of Pt still limit the large-scale commercialization of green energy devices and facilities. 12. Microstructure of Zirconium Alloys Oxidized in Steam
Sammanfattning : Zirconium alloys are widely used in nuclear reactors as fuel cladding tubes because of their low thermal neutron capture cross-section, good corrosion properties and satisfactory mechanical properties. However, the main limiting factor of these materials is the oxidation behavior. LÄS MER
13. Reflective structural colors and their actuation using electroactive conducting polymers
Sammanfattning : The integration of inorganic photonic nanostructures with organic materials opens new possibilities to dynamically modify the optical response of photonic devices. This thesis focuses on how to generate efficient reflective structural colors and tune them in combination with a conducting polymer (CP). LÄS MER
14. Electrifying the Molecules of Life : Peptide and Protein Analysis by Capillary Electrophoresis Coupled to Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the current status and novel aspects of the analysis of the molecules of life, i.e. peptides and proteins, using capillary electrophoresis (CE) coupled to mass spectrometry (MS) via (sheathless) electrospray ionization (ESI). Early reports of sheathless CE-ESI-MS were plagued by limited lifetimes of the electrospray emitter. LÄS MER
15. X-Ray Diagnostics in Combustion - Study of Particle Formation in Flames Using Combined Small- and Wide-Angle X-Ray Scattering
Sammanfattning : In the thesis work, two X-ray scattering techniques, small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS and WAXS) were combined to study particle formation in-situ and non-intrusively in ethylene laboratory flames. Combining these two techniques enabled information concerning the size and concentration as well as the subnanometer structure of the nanoparticles within the 1–100 nm range there to be obtained.
