  1. 1. Selective wavelength pupillometry to evaluate outer and inner retinal photoreception

    Författare :Aki Kawasaki; Fatima Pedrosa Domellöf; Bertil Lindblom; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pupil; pupil light reflex; melanopsin; photoreceptor; intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cell; oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology;

    Sammanfattning : PurposeIntrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) express a unique photopigment called melanopsin. Capable of direct phototransduction, the ipRGCs are also influenced by rods and cones via synaptic inputs. LÄS MER

    Författare :Claes af Klinteberg; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diffusion equation; Aminolevulinic acid; Protoporphyrin IX; Photodynamic therapy; Fluorescence spectroscopy; Fluorescence imaging; Laser-Doppler perfusion imaging; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Atomic and molecular physics; Multiple scattering; Tissue optics; Tissue optical properties; Fysicumarkivet A:1999:Klinteberg;

    Sammanfattning : Some aspects on the use of light for tissue characterization and treatment of malignant tumours are discussed within this thesis. The work presented aims at improving optical techniques for tissue characterization, especially to detect malignant and pre-malignant lesions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modeling Quantum Cascade Lasers : The Challenge of Infra-Red Devices

    Författare :Martin Franckie; Matematisk fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum Cascade Lasers; Non-equilibrium Green s functions; Modeling; semiconductor heterostructures; Quantum Cascade Lasers; Non-equilibrium Green s functions; THz radiation; infrared radiation; semiconductor heterostructures; Modeling Simulation Technology; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Franckié;

    Sammanfattning : We live in a time of rapid scientific and technological advancement. People liv- ing 100 years ago could never dream of inventions like those having completely changed our way of life, and our perception of the world; computers, mobile phones, the Internet, space travel, unraveling the mysteries of the early universe and distant galaxies, and our insight into the microscopic world of quantum phe- nomena. 4. 4. Spectroscopic techniques for photodynamic therapy dosimetry

    Författare :Ann Johansson; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic and molecular physics; diffuse light spectroscopy; photodynamic therapy; biomedical optics; Atom- och molekylärfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Photodynamic therapy (PDT) as a cancer treatment modality relies on the simultaneous presence of three components; light, photosensitiser and oxygen. Once excited by the light, the photosensitiser can interact with oxygen, leading to the formation of toxic oxygen species. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Laser diode systems for photodynamic therapy and medical diagnostics

    Författare :Eva Samsöe Andersen; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quasi-phasematching; photodynamic therapy; laser-induced fluorescence; medical laser systems.; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; Laserteknik; Laser technology; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur; Diagnostik; Diagnostics; second harmonic generation; pulsed lasers; spatial filtering; Diode lasers; optical feedback; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Samsöe Andersen;

    Sammanfattning : This work concerns techniques for improvement of the coherence properties of diode lasers so that they may be used in two specific medical applications: (Interstitial) photodynamic therapy (PDT) and laser-induced fluorescence diagnostics. In the first application, spatial coherence is crucial, since the treatment light should be delivered through relatively thin optical fibers to optimize treatment and to facilitate minimally invasive treatment.
