2. Maternal investment in male and female offspring in the fallow deer
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I investigate whether mothers of the polygynous fallow deer, Dama dama, bias their investment towards male offspring. I aim to answer the specific questions: (i) how is offspring fitness related to maternal investment?; (ii) do male fawns grow faster than female fawns during the period of maternal investment, and if so, why?; (iii) are male fawns more costly to raise than female fawns?; (iv) do fallow deer mothers adjust the sex of their offspring in relation to their ability to invest resources? To answer these questions I have collected and analysed data on reproduction of an enclosed fallow deer population and also performed an experimental study in which the level of investment was controlled for. 3. An analysis of the relationship between the energy and buildings sectors in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Climate change is one of the global challenges of our time. The energy sector is at the focus of the European efforts to combat climate change as it accounts for 80% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union. LÄS MER
4. Building as active elements of energy systems
Sammanfattning : Buildings account for approximately 40% of the energy demand and 33% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union. Accordingly, there are several efforts that target energy efficiency in buildings both at the European and Swedish levels. The role of buildings in climate change mitigation, however, is not limited to energy savings. LÄS MER
5. Heat demand profiles of buildings' energy conservation measures and their impact on renewable and resource efficient district heating systems
Sammanfattning : Increased energy performance of the building stock of European Union is seen as an important measure towards mitigating climate change, increasing resource utilisation efficiency and energy supply security. Whether to improve the supply-side, the demand-side or both is an open issue. LÄS MER
