  1. 1. Electromyography and bite force studies of muscular function and dysfunction in masticatory muscles

    Författare :Catharina Hagberg; []
    Nyckelord :Electromyography; bite force; contraction; isometric; masticatory muscles; mastication; intramuscular injections;

    Sammanfattning : Electromyographic (EMG) activity versus bite force was studied during a gradually increased isometric contraction up to maximal effort for patients with painful masseter muscles and referents. The masseter muscle, the anterior temporal muscle and the descending part of the trapezius muscle were chosen for the recordings. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Context dependent adaptation of biting behavior in human

    Författare :Anders Johansson; Benoni Edin; Karl-Gunnar Westberg; Peter Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; EMG; bite force; human; mastication; muscles; jaw opening reflex; motor control; reflex modulation; periodontal attachment loss; periodontitis; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis was to study an action that humans perform regularly, namely, to hold a morsel between the teeth and split it into smaller pieces. Three different issues related to this biting behavior were addressed:  (1) the effect of reduced periodontal tissues on food holding and splitting behavior; (2) the behavioral consequences of performing different bite tasks with different functional requirements, i. 3. 3. Comparative in vivo and in vitro studies on the biomechanics of maxillary partial dentures. A methodological and experimental study

    Författare :Cláudio Pinheiro Fernandes; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; stomatology; biomechanics; Bite force; conical crowns; denture design; in vitro; in vivo; photoelasticity; strain gauges; Odontology; stress analysis.; Odontologi;

    Sammanfattning : Biomechanical aspects are generally agreed to be significant, particularly during the planning of restorative treatments and the design of prosthetic appliances. However, comparative in vivo/in vitro studies show wide differences in the magnitudes and patterns of functional strains in prosthetic devices. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Functional appliance treatment and stability in Class II/1 malocclusion, and masticatory muscle characteristics

    Författare :Gregory Antonarakis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Class II malocclusion; functional appliances; masticatory muscles; stability; ultrasonography; bite force;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: To evaluate the short-term antero-posterior effects on Class II division 1 malocclusion in growing children using functional appliances, and investigate whether the functional capacity of the masticatory musculature can be used as a predictive variable in determining the treatment and post-treatment effects following functional appliance treatment. Material and Methods: Firstly, a literature search was carried out identifying prospective clinical trials on the treatment of Class II malocclusion using functional appliances or/and headgear in growing children. 5. 5. Spatial control of biting behavior : to bite and not to slip

    Författare :Joannis Grigoriadis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: During biting and chewing the periodontal mechanoreceptors (PMRs) signal sensory information about the point of attack, the direction of the tooth loads and the intensity of the force with a high sensitivity to very low forces. The sensory information from the PMRs is used by the central nervous system (CNS) to control and position the food morsels and direct the force vectors during biting and chewing. LÄS MER
