11. Interactions and phase stability in Ni-rich binary alloys
Sammanfattning : Ni-based superalloys are the important materials for gas turbines in advancedaeroplane engines . The addition of refractory elements to these superalloys, such as rhenium and tungsten, can significantly improve the hightemperatureperformance by so-called solid-solution hardening. LÄS MER
12. A Computational Venture into the Realm of Laminated Borides and their 2D Derivatives
Sammanfattning : Daily life in modern society is highly dependent on many different materials and techniques for manipulating them, and the technological forefront is constantly pushed further by new discoveries. Hence, materials science is a very important field of research. LÄS MER
13. Density Functional Theory Applied to Materials for Spintronics
Sammanfattning : The properties of dilute magnetic semiconductors have been studied by combined ab initio, Monte Carlo, and experimental techniques. This class of materials could be very important for future spintronic devices, that offer enriched functionality by making use of both the spin and the charge of the electrons. LÄS MER
14. Ab initio Studies on Exchange Interactions in Metals and Correlated Oxides
Sammanfattning : A report is given on the implementation of a frozen magnon technique in the FLAPW code FLEUR, showing that the procedure reduced computational costs compared with a previously implemented method, while delivering accurate results. Furthermore a generalisation was made of the well known one lattice formula that connects the total energy differences of spin-spirals to the adiabatic magnon excitation energies to multiple lattice systems. 15. New Materials for Spintronics : Electronic structure and magnetism
Sammanfattning : Materials exhibiting new functionalities due to interdependent electric (e.g. conductivity) and magnetic properties are potentially interesting for spintronics applications. LÄS MER
