  1. 1. Biomolecular markers in head and neck cancer

    Författare :Eva Lindell Jonsson; Göran Laurell; Karin Nylander; Marika Nestor; Linda Marklund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Head and neck cancer; Biomolecular markers; Radiation; Radiation-induced mucositis; Oral Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma; Metabolomics; EGFR; Hyaluronan; Mast cells; Neutrophils; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; Oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Head and neck cancer is a heterogeneous group of tumours, of which certain subgroups such as cancer of the mobile tongue frequently are associated with a relatively poor prognosis due to the high risk of regional failure and mortality rates that haven’t improved in a significant way over the last 3 decades, despite advancements in both diagnostics and treatment.Today we lack means to assess the biological aggressiveness of each individual tumour, which varies largely. 2. 2. Metastatic Breast Cancer: Biomolecular Characterization and Targeted Therapy

    Författare :Siker Kimbung; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metastatic breast cancer; biomarker conversion; liver metastasis-selective genes; prognosis; BRCA1; PARP1;

    Sammanfattning : Metastasis is a complex process that remains a major challenge in the clinical management of cancer, because most cancer-related deaths are attributed to disseminated disease rather than the primary tumor. Despite the significant advances in the prediction of prognosis, and therapeutic management of primary breast cancers, coupled with the substantial improvement in our understanding of the molecular determinants of metastasis, breast cancer relapse and death rates remain unacceptably high. 3. 3. Environmental and genetic factors in lung cancer : epidemiologocal and biomolecular studies focusing on nonsmokers

    Författare :Fredrik Nyberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Lung cancer; case-control study; smoking misclassification; exposure misclassification; validation; bias; nonsmoker; smoking; environmental tobacco smoke; ETS; diet; biomarker; glutathione S transferase; GSTM1; N-acetyl transferase; NAT2; hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosiyl transferase; hprt; DNA; adducts;

    Sammanfattning : Tobacco smoking is the major cause of lung cancer. Other risk factors include exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), dietary habits and genetic factors. When studying such risk factors, confounding from smoking presents a pervasive methodological problem. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Physical characterization of exosomes and other extracellular vesicles using surface-based sensing

    Författare :Deborah Rupert; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoparticle tracking analysis; exosomes; scattering; surface-based biosensing; optical density; cluster of differentiation 63 CD63 ; liposomes; label-free; fluorescence; surface plasmon resonance; Extracellular vesicles; specificity; antibody; lipid content; single particle; quantification; size distribution; optical waveguide microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are hundred of nanometer sized particles secreted by almost all cell types. Exosomes are one type of EVs today intensively investigated due to the increased evidence suggesting that they play important roles as communicating vehicles in a broad range of physiological processes, pathological conditions and disease diagnostics. 5. 5. Statistical Modeling and Learning of the Environmental and Genetic Drivers of Variation in Human Immunity

    Författare :Jacob Bergstedt; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decade the variation in the human genome has been mapped in fine detail. Next generation sequencing has made it possible to cheaply and rapidly aquire vast amounts of biomolecular information on large cohorts of people. LÄS MER
