  1. 21. Hybrid zone dynamics, assortative mating, and migratory programmes in a willow warbler migratory divide

    Författare :Keith W. Larson; Susanne Åkesson; Staffan Bensch; Martin Schaefer; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; migratory divide; phenotype; willow warbler; hybrid zone; tension zone; Phylloscopus trochilus; migratype; assortative mating; migration; biology; biologi; evolutionär genetik; evolutionary genetics; migratory divide; phenotype; willow warbler; hybrid zone; tension zone; Phylloscopus trochilus; migratype; assortative mating; migration;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I will compare and contrast the two willow warbler subspecies (Phylloscopus trochilus trochilus and P. t. acredula) with differing migratory phenotypes (or "migratype") in the context of their migratory divide and hybrid zone in central Sweden. Their migratory programs differ in the direction and distance traveled during migration. LÄS MER

  2. 22. On Transcriptome Sequencing

    Författare :Daniel Klevebring; Joakim Lundeberg; Ulf Gyllensten; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transcriptome; RNA-seq; DNA sequencing; gene expression profiling; non-coding RNA; small RNA; Functional genomics; Funktionsgenomik; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Genetics; Genetik; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about the use of massive DNA sequencing to investigate the transcriptome. During recent decades, several studies have made it clear that the transcriptome comprises a more complex set of biochemical machinery than was previously believed. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Development of Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics Tools : From Hydrogen Evolution to Cell Division in Cyanobacteria

    Författare :Fernando Lopes Pinto; Peter Lindblad; Röbbe Wünschiers; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The use of fossil fuels presents a particularly interesting challenge - our society strongly depends on coal and oil, but we are aware that their use is damaging the environment. Currently, this awareness is gaining momentum, and pressure to evolve towards an energetically cleaner planet is very strong. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Characterization of New Players in Planar Polarity Establishment in Arabidopsis

    Författare :Stefano Pietra; Markus Grebe; Niko Geldner; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SABRE; planar polarity; CLASP; cell division orientation; microtubule cytoskeleton; actin; AIP1; patterning; Developmental Biology; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coordinated polarity and differentiation of cells in the plane of a tissue layer are essential to the development of multicellular organisms. Arabidopsis thaliana root hairs and trichomes provide model systems to study the pathways that control planar polarity and cell fate specification in plants. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Systems Biology of the Secondary Metabolism in Filamentous Fungi

    Författare :Jens Christian Froslev Nielsen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genomics; systems biology; secondary metabolites; antibiotics; Next-generation sequencing; secondary metabolism; filamentous fungi; cell factories; Penicillium;

    Sammanfattning : Filamentous fungi constitute a rich reservoir of pharmaceutically relevant bioactive small molecules. These compounds, commonly referred to as secondary metabolites, are widely used as antibiotics for the treatment of microbial infections, but also as other pharmaceuticals such as immunosuppressors, cholesterol lowering agents and anticancer drugs.
