  1. 21. Modelling Approaches to Molecular Systems Biology

    Författare :David Fange; Måns Ehrenberg; Johan Elf; Terence Hwa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stochastic reaction-diffuion kinetics; antibiotic drugs; efflux pumps; amino acid biosynthesis; Min-system; rRNA operon; transcription; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Implementation and analysis of mathematical models can serve as a powerful tool in understanding how intracellular processes in bacteria affect the bacterial phenotype. In this thesis I have implemented and analysed models of a number of different parts of the bacterium E. coli in order to understand these types of connections. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Regulation of hematopoiesis in the freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus : role of transglutaminase

    Författare :Kingkamon Junkunlo; Irene Söderhäll; Kenneth Söderhäll; Chadanat Noonin; Mats W Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ast1; clotting protein; crayfish; hematopoiesis; PVF PVR; ROS; transglutaminase; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, has been used as a model for studying hematopoiesis or blood cell production or hematopoiesis and immunity. The work of this thesis aims to investigate the impact of factors such as ROS signaling, Ast1, and the PVF/PVR signaling pathway in controlling stem cell behavior during hematopoiesis and specifically the role of the crosslinking enzyme transglutaminase (TGase) in regulation of hematopoiesis. 3. 23. Heparan Sulfate Proteoglycans in Brain Tumor Development

    Författare :Argyris Spyrou; Karin Forsberg Nilsson; Fredrik Johansson Swartling; Jöns Hilborn; John Couchman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glioma; pediatric brain tumors; heparanase; NDST1; heparan sulfate proteoglycans; CD24; glycosaminoglycan mimetics; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Malignant brain tumors are aggressive neoplasms that remain challenging to treat in spite of their detailed molecular characterization. Both adults and children may suffer from brain tumors, which, if not lethal, can cause severe long-term and devastating side effects. LÄS MER

  4. 24. The elephant in the cell : A multifaceted undertaking to uncover the molecular principles behind lymphatic endothelial cell identity

    Författare :Virginia Panara; Katarzyna Koltowska; Taija Mäkinen; Marcel den Hoed; Sarah de Val; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lymphatic endothelium; Development; Epigenetic; Biologi med inriktning mot zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Development;

    Sammanfattning : The lymphatic vascular network is composed of a series of blind ended vessels, and is involved in physiological functions such as fluid homeostasis, lipid metabolism and immune trafficking. Despite lymphatic endothelial cells being derived from multiple organs, they share common molecular denominators, including the expression of the transcription factor Prox1. 5. 25. Of spiders, bugs, and men : Structural and functional studies of proteins involved in assembly

    Författare :Wangshu Jiang; Stefan D Knight; Steve J. Matthews; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein assembly; sulfate transporter; crystallography; Proteus mirabilis; fimbriae; adhesin; urinary tract infection; biofilm; spider silk; asymmetric dimer; Bri2; BRICHOS; molecular chaperone; Alzheimer s disease; amyloid; Biology with specialization in Structural Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot strukturbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Protein assembly enables complex machineries while being economical with genetic information. However, protein assembly also constitutes a potential threat to the host, and needs to be carefully regulated.Sulfate is a common source of sulfur for cysteine synthesis in bacteria. LÄS MER
