  1. 1. Developmental exposure to mixtures of environmental pollutants : Studies on metabolism, developmental processes, and reproductive organs in zebrafish and chicken embryos

    Författare :Anna Mentor; Maria Jönsson; Patrick Babin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mixtures; Developmental toxicology; Endocrine disrupting chemicals; Metabolism; Feminization; Zebrafish; Chicken embryo; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Humans and wildlife are continuously exposed to mixtures of environmental pollutants. Mixture toxicity can be challenging to predict due to interactions between chemicals and thus whole-mixture approaches are crucial in toxicology. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Impact of epidemiologically identified mixtures of endocrine disrupting chemicals on metabolic programming

    Författare :Polina Lizunkova; Joëlle Rüegg; Elin Engdahl; Joachim Sturve; Carl-Gustaf Bornehag; Juliette Legler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Endocrine disrupting chemicals; Mixtures; Metabolism; Developmental Toxicology; Epigenetics; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : We are ubiquitously exposed to a plethora of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), i.e. substances that alter the function(s) of the endocrine system. While ample evidence show individual EDC's influence on developmental processes resulting in adverse health outcomes, less is known about the effects of human-relevant EDC mixtures exposure. LÄS MER

  3. 3. In Vitro Studies of Adrenocorticolytic DDT Metabolites, with Special Focus on 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE

    Författare :Vendela Asp; Ingvar Brandt; Ulrika Bergström; Olle Söder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicity; 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE; CYP; adrenal cortex; metabolic activation; steroid hormones; Y-1; H295R; mitotane; adrenocortical carcinoma; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : The DDT metabolite 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE (3-MeSO2-DDE) is bioactivated by cytochrome P450 11B1 (CYP11B1) in the adrenal cortex of mice and forms irreversibly bound protein adducts, reduces glucocorticoid secretion, and induces cell death selectively in cortisol-producing adrenocortical cells. 3-MeSO2-DDE has therefore been proposed as a lead compound for an improved adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) therapy. 4. 4. Cellular transport and secretion of the cyanobacterial neurotoxin BMAA into milk and egg : Implications for developmental neurotoxicity

    Författare :Marie Andersson; Ingvar Brandt; Cynthia de Wit; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BMAA; beta-N-methylamino-L-alanine; milk; secretion; amino acid transporter; autoradiography; metabolism; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : The cyanobacterial amino acid β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) is a neurotoxin implicated in the etiology of neurodegenerative diseases. Cyanobacteria are cosmopolitan organisms present in various environments. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Pheromonal Mediated Behaviour and Endocrine Responses in Salmonids : The impact of Cypermethrin, Copper, and Glyphosate

    Författare :Alia Jaensson; Ingvar Brandt; Håkan Olsen; Kjell Döving; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cypermethrin; copper; glyphosate; behaviour; hormones; pheromones; olfaction; 11-ketotestosterone 11-KT ; 17α; 20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one 17; 20β-P ; reproduction; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : The effects of cypermethrin, copper and glyphosate on the endocrine system and subsequent response to female pheromones were investigated in mature male brown trout (Salmo trutta) parr.  Responses measured were the amount of strippable milt, blood plasma levels of both an androgen (11-ketotestosterone (11-KT)) and a progestin (17α,20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17,20b-P)), and behavioural changes.
