  1. 1. Phylogenetic Relationships of Silene sect. Melandrium and Allied Taxa (Caryophyllaceae), as Deduced from Multiple Gene Trees

    Författare :Anja Rautenberg; Bengt Oxelman; Mikael Thollesson; Magnus Lidén; Freek Bakker; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on phylogenetic relationships among some of the major lineages in Silene subgenus Behenantha (Caryophyllaceae) using DNA sequences from multiple, potentially unlinked gene regions from a large taxonomic and geographic sample. Both traditional phylogenetic analyses and a strategy to infer species trees and gene trees in a joint approach are used. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Factors modifying cellular response to ionizing radiation

    Författare :Lei Cheng; Andrzej Wojcik; Siamak Haghdoost; Lovisa Lundholm; Penelope A. Jeggo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radiation biology; DNA damage; gene expression; alpha particles; X-rays; mixed beams; gamma rays; hypothermia; dose rate.; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Many physical factors influence the biological effect of exposure to ionizing radiation, including radiation quality, dose rate and temperature. This thesis focuses on how these factors influence the outcome of exposure and the mechanisms behind the cellular response. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genomic and morphological diversity of marine planktonic diatom-diazotroph associations : a continuum of integration and diversification through geological time

    Författare :Andrea Caputo; Rachel Ann Foster; Monika Quinones Winder; Ramon Massana; Stockholms universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Symbioses between eukaryotes and nitrogen (N2)-fixing cyanobacteria (or diazotrophs) are quite common in the plankton community. A few genera of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) such as Rhizosolenia, Hemiaulus and Chaetoceros are well known to form symbioses with the heterocystous diazotrophic cyanobacteria Richelia intracellularis and Calothrix rhizosoleniae. 4. 4. Effect of environmental factors on bacterioplankton community composition, diversity and functionality

    Författare :Johanna Sjöstedt; Lasse Riemann; Silke Langenheder; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine microbiology; bacterioplankton; community composition; diversity; functionality; environmental factors; disturbance; distribution; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The ocean covers more than 70 % of the Earth surface and represents the largest ecosystem on Earth. Bacteria are an important part of the marine food web not only in remineralisation but also since they utilize dissolved organic matter (DOM) and make the energy available to higher trophic levels. 5. 5. Biological risk factors for crime : Adverse perinatal events and psychophysiology

    Författare :Sofi Oskarsson; Catherine Tuvblad; Henrik Larsson; Marianne Kristiansson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Biological Risk Factors; Crime; Criminal Offender; Biological Criminology; Adverse Perinatal Events; Psychophysiology; Psychopathy;

    Sammanfattning : Biological risk factors for crime have been largely neglected within main-stream criminology. However, a large body of research has over the past few decades converged on the conclusion that it is important to consider biological risk factors for crime, as they may help to inform theory and etiology.
