11. High-Tc SQUIDs for biomedical applications: immunoassays, MEG, and ULF-MRI
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes high transition temperature superconducting quantum interference devices (high-Tc SQUIDs) for magnetic immunoassays (MIAs), magnetoencephalography (MEG) and ultra-low field magnetic resonance imaging (ULF-MRI).High-Tc dc SQUID sensors were fabricated in single layers of YBa2Cu3O7−δ deposited by pulsed laser deposition and patterned using photolithography on 10×10 mm2 SrTiO3 bicrystal substrates. 12. Concepts and biomedical applications of excitation-modulated transient state monitoring of fluorescence emitters
Sammanfattning : Fluorescence methods have developed very strongly in the last decade, allowing single- molecule detection sensitivity, high specificity, high time- and spatial resolution, as well as high readout speeds. Together, this makes fluorescencea very central readout modality for biomolecular and cellular studies. LÄS MER
13. GENOME2QUNOME : Interfacing Molecules with Nanomaterials
Sammanfattning : The advent of technological furtherance in the biomedical sector and the renaissance of interdisciplinary science enable us to comprehend human lifestyle, and diseases at molecular and nanoscale levels. Lacking a shared theoretical foundation and terminological lexicon between various scientific domains might impede efforts to incorporate biological principles into nanoscience. LÄS MER
14. High Performance Finite Element Methods with Application to Simulation of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines and Diffusion MRI
Sammanfattning : Finite element methods have been developed over decades, and together with the growth of computer power, they become more and more important in dealing with large-scale simulations in science and industry. The objective of this thesis is to develop high-performance finite element methods, with two concrete applications: computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with simulation of turbulent flow past a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT), and computational diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (CDMRI). 15. Material and technique development for ultrasound optical tomography using spectral hole burning filters
Sammanfattning : The molecular sensitivity provided by optical photons has potential advantages in medical diagnostics, for example, in distinguishing healthy from cancerous tissue. However, scattering resulting from inhomogeneities in the refractive index of tissues prevents spatially resolved optical measurements in biological material, except at very shallow depths. LÄS MER
