1. Extracellular Matrix Based Materials for Tissue Engineering
Sammanfattning : The extracellular matrix is (ECM) is a network of large, structural proteins and polysaccharides, important for cellular behavior, tissue development and maintenance. Present thesis describes work exploring ECM as scaffolds for tissue engineering by manipulating cells cultured in vitro or by influencing ECM expression in vivo. LÄS MER
2. Mutant superoxide dismutase-1-caused pathogenesis in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating disease that affects people in their late mid-life, with fatal outcome usually within a few years. The progressive degeneration of neurons responsible for muscle movement (motor neurons) throughout the central nervous system (CNS) leads to muscle wasting and paralysis, and eventually affects respiratory function. 3. Plasminogen : a novel inflammatory regulator that promotes wound healing
Sammanfattning : The plasminogen activator (PA) system has been shown to be intimately involved in wound healing. However, the role of this system in the initiation and resolution of inflammation during healing process remained to be determined. LÄS MER
4. Modeling and exploring human IRE1 as a strategy to design novel inhibitors: a computational approach
Sammanfattning : Inositol Requiring Enzyme 1 (IRE1) is a bifunctional serine/threonine kinase and endoribonuclease that is the major mediator of the Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) during endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. The association of IRE1 dysregulation with a wide range of human diseases, stimulated research towards the discovery of small organic molecules able to modulate IRE1 signalling, and to potentially be used as novel therapeutics. 5. Identification of novel BRCA2-binding proteins that are essential for meiotic homologous recombination
Sammanfattning : Meiotic recombination is a molecular process in which the induction and repair of programmed DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) creates genetic exchange between homologous chromosomes and thus increases genetic diversity and ensures chromosome segregation. Breast cancer susceptibility gene 2 (BRCA2) is a potent cancer suppressor and is required for DSB repair by homologous recombination (HR) in mitosis. LÄS MER
