  1. 21. Into the Membrane and Beyond : Improving Membrane Protein Over-Expression in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Mirjam Klepsch; Jan-Willem de Gier; Reinhard Grisshammer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Escherichia coli; membrane protein over-expression; proteomics; T7 RNA polymerase; peptide transport; strain engineering; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins fulfil a wide variety of essential functions in the cell and many are (potential) drug targets. Since their natural abundance is usually very low, most membrane proteins have to be over-expressed for functional and structural studies. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Infrared spectroscopy : Method development and ligand binding studies

    Författare :Saroj Kumar; Andreas Barth; Janos Mink; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Infrared; Ligand binding; method development; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi; biofysik; Biophysics;

    Sammanfattning : Infrared spectroscopy detects molecular vibrations and assesses the properties of molecules and their environment. It is a powerful technique to detect ligand induced changes in biomolecules as it has distinct signals and provides different levels of structural information. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Biological membrane interfaces involved in diseases : a biophysical study

    Författare :Fredrick Lindström; Gerhard Gröbner; Dick Sandström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solid-state NMR; DSC; Amyloid-beta peptide; Nociceptin; DMPC; DMPG; DDAB; peptide-lipid interaction; branched-chain fatty acid.; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions between peptides and biological lipid membranes play a crucial role in many cellular processes such as in the mechanism behind Alzheimer’s disease where amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta)is thought to be a key component. The initial step of binding between a surface active peptide and its target membrane or membrane receptor can involve a non specific electrostatic association where positively charged amino acid residues and a negatively charged membrane surface interact. 4. 24. Fluorescence studies of complex systems : organisation of biomolecules

    Författare :Denys Marushchak; Lennart B.A. Johansson; Alexander Lyubartsev; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fluorescence anisotropy; BODIPY; homo and hetero dimerisation; protein aggregates; protein polymer structures; actin polymerisation; FRET; donor–acceptor energy transfer DAET; donor-donor energy migration DDEM; homotransfer; Monte Carlo simulation; MC; Brownian dynamics; BD; Genetic Algorithm; GA.; Ganglioside GM1; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The homo and hetero dimerisation of two spectroscopically different chromophores were studied, namely: 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diazas-indacene (g-BODIPY) and its 5-styryl-derivative (r-BODIPY). Various spectroscopic properties of the r-BODIPY in different common solvents were determined. LÄS MER

  5. 25. An Ultrafast Spectroscopic and Quantum-Chemical Study of the Photochemistry of Bilirubin : Initial Processes in the Phototherapy for Neonatal Jaundice

    Författare :Burkhard Zietz; Tomas Gillbro; Jouko Korppi-Tommola; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bilirubin; Phototherapy; Neonatal Jaundice; Femtosecond Spectroscopy; CASSCF; TD-DFT; Isomerisation Dynamics; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Bilirubin is a degradation product of haem, which is constantly formed in allmammals. Increased levels of bilirubin in humans lead to jaundice, a conditionthat is very common during the first days after birth. This neonataljaundice can routinely be treated by phototherapy without any serious sideeffects. LÄS MER
