  1. 1. Towards inclusion of Biodiversity in Life Cycle Assessment

    Författare :Emke Vrasdonk; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Impact assessment; Biodiversity; LCA; eDNA; Life Cycle Assessment; Sustainability; Reference situation; Land Use; Biodiversity conservation; Metabarcoding; Indicators;

    Sammanfattning : Biodiversity- crucial for ecosystem health and its products and services – is being lost at an alarming rate. While it is clear that human consumption is the main driving force of the considerable losses, conversion of natural habitats for production is continuing and the subsequent intensification of those systems is likely to cause even further biodiversity decay. 2. 2. Biodiversity in environmental assessment : tools for impact prediction

    Författare :Mikael Gontier; Berit Balfors; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; Environmental impact assessment; Strategic environmental assessment; Biodiversity assessment; Prediction tools; GIS; GIS-base ecological models; Miljöteknik; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Urbanisation and infrastructure developments impact on the surrounding natural environment and threaten biodiversity. The fragmentation of natural habitats in particular is a major obstacle for the preservation of biodiversity in a long-term perspective. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Road Ecology for Environmental Assessment

    Författare :Mårten Karlson; Berit Balfors; Ulla Mörtberg; Jo Treweek; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Roads; Railways; Biodiversity; Environmental Assessment; GIS; Decision Support; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Transport infrastructure is closely linked to several politically relevant sustainability issues, and since 1985 a formalized environmental assessment process is linked to planning and construction of new roads and railways in the EU (EU directives 85/337/EEC and 2001/42). The aim of the environmental assessment process is to think in advance; to identify, predict and evaluate significant environmental changes resulting from a proposed activity, in order to adjust the proposed activity accordingly and to avoid unnecessary and unexpected consequences. 4. 4. Landscape Ecological Analysis and Assessment in an Urbanising Environment - forest birds as biodiversity indicators

    Författare :Ulla Mörtberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Landscape ecology; planning; strategic environmental assessment; biodiversity;

    Sammanfattning : To achieve a sustainable development, impacts onbiodiversity of urbanisation, infrastructure, land use changesand other developments must be considered on a landscape andregional scale. Landscape ecology can provide a conceptualframework for the assessment of consequences of long-termdevelopment processes like urbanisation on biodiversity on alandscape scale, and for evaluating the impacts of alternativeplanning scenarios. 5. 5. Research on methodologies for impact assessment on biodiversity - the case of bio based products

    Författare :Maria Lindqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; land use; forestry; Keywords: life cycle impact assessment; biodiversity;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACTThe topic of this thesis is impact assessment on biodiversity in life cycle assessment (LCA). With humans in focus, we need the earth’s resources and its biodiversity for our existence and human well-being may depend on the management of the earth’s resources. The earth, however, does not need humans to continue its existence. LÄS MER
