11. Modern landfill leachates – quality and treatment
Sammanfattning : Waste management in Europe has changed, mainly as a result of stricter regulations, most notably the European Landfill Directive 1999/31/EC. In Sweden, landfill tax and a ban on the landfilling of waste with total organic carbon content over 10 % have diverted large amounts of waste from landfills. LÄS MER
12. Pharmaceutical compounds; a new challenge for wastewater treatment plants
Sammanfattning : Analytical analyses conducted at the Himmerfjärden WWTP (285.000 PE connected) identified 70 pharmaceutical compounds belonging to different therapeutic classes. Such organic micropollutants at low detected concentration range of µg - ng l-1 did not affect the treatment processes at WWTP. LÄS MER
13. Application of two dimensional compound specific carbon-chlorine isotope analyses for degradation monitoring and assessment of organic pollutants in contaminated soil and groundwater
Sammanfattning : Nearly 250,000 sites with past and present potentially polluting activities need urgent remediation within Europe. Major pollutants include organochlorines (OCls), e.g. chlorinated ethenes (CEs) and hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), mainly used as industrial solvents and pesticides, respectively. LÄS MER
14. Chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons; an interdisciplinary study of degradation and distribution in complex environments
Sammanfattning : In this thesis degradation of chlorinated solvents, e.g., tetrachloroethene (perchloroethylene [PCE]), has been examined, both natural occurring degradation and in situ remediation strategies. LÄS MER
15. Transformation of Micropollutants in the Hyporheic Zone
Sammanfattning : Hyporheic zones (HZs) are reactive transition regions between rivers and aquifers which are thought to play an important role in the attenuation of micropollutants. Micropollutants are chemical substances such as pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals or personal care products that are found in trace concentrations in the environment and that can be harmful to organisms.
