  1. 1. Regulation of digestive organ. An experimental study on the role of CCK, Bile and EGF

    Författare :Bodil Ohlsson; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; trophic effects; total parenteral nutrition; salivary glands; pancreaticobiliary diversion; pancreas; liver; intestinal mucosa; epidermal growth factor; cholecystokinin; biliodigestive shunt; Bile; bilary tract; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; Gastro-enterology; Gastroenterologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cholecystokinin (CCK) is known to exert secretory and trophic effects on the pancreas. Its release from the intestinal mucosa is regulated by pancresic proteases in the small intestine. However, knowledge about the type of responding exocrine cells and the time course of events during stimulation with CCK is lacking. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On the Aggregation of Cereal β-Glucan and its Association with other Biomolecules : A Study using Asymmetric Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (AF4)

    Författare :Claudia Zielke; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :ß-glucan; polysaccharides; dietary fiber; field flow fractionation; Asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation AF4 ; Multiangle light scattering MALS ;

    Sammanfattning : During recent years, numerous studies have shown the ability of dietary fiber toprotect the colon from disease and to improve intestinal health. Beneficial healtheffects, such as the lowering of blood cholesterol levels and a reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease, are often directly related to cereal β-glucan, one of the major components of dietary fiber found in oat and barley. 3. 3. Image-based dynamic liver testing : studies of segmental hepatic parenchymal function and biliary flow using dynamic 99Tcm-HIDA SPECT

    Författare :Eduard Jonas; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Dynamic SPECT; Segmental liver function test; Primary sclerosing cholangitis; Bile flow; Bile scintigraphy;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the study was to create a dynamic liver function test using a tomographic imaging procedure as sampling method. The liver has multiple and complex functions. It is obvious that no single test can give a comprehensive measurement of total liver function. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Jejunoileal bypass for morbid obesity : studies of the long-term effects

    Författare :Anders Sylvan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Jejunoileal bypass; Obesity; Surgery; Liver biopsy; Fibrinolytic system; Colonoscopy; Flow cytometry; Cancer risk;

    Sammanfattning : This study was aimed at investigating adverse and beneficial long-term effects of jejunoileal bypass (JIB) sugery in obese patients. The JIB was the first widly used surgical procedure for treatment of morbid obesity. The weight loss was remarkable, but the procedure was declared not appropiate for obesity surgery in the late 1970's. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies on mechanisms in liver fibrosis

    Författare :Nils Kinnman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :bile duct epithelial cell; chernotaxis; cholestasis; cystic fibrosis; cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator; endothelin; hepatic stellate cell; hepatitis C virus; liver fibrosis; platelet-derived growth factor; platelet-derived growth factor receptor [beta]; smooth muscle [alpha]-actin; transforming growth factor- [beta]; tumor necrosis factor-[alpha];

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present study was to elucidate mechanisms involved in liver fibrogenesis, the wound healing response of the liver to chronic injury. A role for TNF-[alpha] and all three isoforms of TGF-[beta] in the pathogenesis of hepatitis C related liver disease was suggested by the finding of increased expression of TGF-[beta]1-3, latent TGF-[beta] binding protein (LTBP), and TNF-[alpha] by immunohistochemistry in areas of inflammation and fibrosis in liver tissue from untreated patients with hepatitis C.
