1. Elastoplasticity of Grey Cast Iron FE-Algorithms and Biaxial Experiments
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on multiaxial elastoplastic behaviour of graphitic grey cast iron with the aim to provide physically appropriate and numerically reliable constitutive relations for use in FE-codes. To achieve this goal, this work is divided into three parts: Biaxial experiments are performed on thin cruciform specimens. LÄS MER
2. 3-D Forming of Paper Materials
Sammanfattning : Paper materials have a long history of use as a packaging material, although traditional paper-based packaging is limited in its shape, complexity, and design. In order to better understand the deformation and failure mechanisms during 3-D forming, two experimental studies of paper materials have been conducted. LÄS MER
3. Mechanical behaviour of glassy polymers: experiments and modelling
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents experimental investigation and modelling of the mechanical response of glassy polycarbonate (PC) during deformation. The mechanical response is studied experimentally over a wide range of length-scales using X-ray scattering techniques and optical full-field deformation measurement by Digital Image Correlation (DIC). 4. Strength and deformability of fractured rocks
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a systematic numerical modeling framework to simulate the stress-deformation and coupled stress-deformation-flow processes by performing uniaxial and biaxial compressive tests on fractured rock models with considering the effects of different loading conditions, different loading directions (anisotropy), and coupled hydro-mechanical processes for evaluating strength and deformability behavior of fractured rocks. By using code UDEC of discrete element method (DEM), a series of numerical experiments were conducted on discrete fracture network models (DFN) at an established representative elementary volume (REV), based on realistic geometrical and mechanical data of fracture systems from field mapping at Sellafield, UK. 5. Experimental characterization and numerical modeling of compression perpendicular to the grain in wood and cross-laminated timber
Sammanfattning : Compression perpendicular to the grain (CPG) of wood is a typical loading situation in timber structures. It has been an extensively studied research topic for decades, due to the highly ductile behavior of wood under such loading, the large variations in mechanical properties, and the relevance of these properties in structural design.
