  1. 1. Molecular Aspects of Transthyretin Amyloid Disease

    Författare :Karin Sörgjerd; Per Hammarström; Joel Buxbaum; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyloid; apoptosis; BiP; chaperone; misfolding; oligomer; transthyretin; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis was made to get a deeper understanding of how chaperones interact with unstable, aggregation prone, misfolded proteins involved in human disease. Over the last two decades, there has been much focus on misfolding diseases within the fields of biochemistry and molecular biotechnology research. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Improving access to behaviour therapy for young people with Tourette syndrome

    Författare :Per Andrén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Tourette syndrome (TS) and Chronic Tic Disorder (CTD) are childhood-onset neurodevelopmental disorders characterised by motor and vocal tics. Treatment guidelines recommend behaviour therapy (BT) as the first-line treatment for TS/CTD, but availability is generally low. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Structural studies of protein : protein complexes in the early secretory pathway

    Författare :Maria Svärd; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, components of three different protein-protein complexes in the early secretory pathway have been studied by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography, with the aim of giving detailed structural information on each protein and gaining a deeper insight into the molecular mechanisms by which each protein performs its function and interactions. The work has resulted in the three-dimensional structures of MCFD2, a protein involved in transport of coagulation factors V and VIII, Erv41p, a vesicle protein proposed to play a role in glycoprotein processing and transport, and the co-chaperone P58IPK. 4. 4. Apoptotic mechanisms in the neonatal brain following hypoxia-ischemia

    Författare :Ylva Carlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypoxia-ischemia brain caspase-2 cyclophilin D MLK neonatal.;

    Sammanfattning : Neonatal encephalopathy is often perinatally acquired and caused by hypoxia-ischemia (HI). Brain injury develops with a delay, over 12-48 hours, after the insult. Hypothermia, an established neuroprotective treatment, saves 1 infant in 9 from neurological deficits suggesting that there is room for further improvement. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Apoptosis and inflammation regulation after injury to the developing brain

    Författare :Wei Han; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The brain shows greater plasticity in early life than in maturity, which paradoxically renders the organ more vulnerable to hypoxia-ischemia (HI)- and cranial irradiation (IR)- induced damage. Apoptosis after a HI insult is more pronounced in the immature vs. LÄS MER
