  1. 11. Palmitate-induced Apoptosis in Insulin-producing β-cells

    Författare :Kristofer Thörn; Peter Bergsten; Claes Wollheim; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ER stress; apoptosis; palmitate; sphingosine-1-phosphate; ceramide; beta-cell; fatty acid; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is a disease characterized by the inability of pancreatic β-cells to secrete sufficient amounts of insulin to maintain normoglycemia. Increased levels of saturated fatty acids such as palmitate are believed to contribute to β-cell failure and the development of the disease. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Oscillatory Signaling and Insulin Secretion from Single ß-cells

    Författare :Olof Idevall Hagren; Anders Tengholm; Erik Gylfe; Leslie Satin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cAMP; Ca2 ; oscillations; beta-cell; insulin secretion; evanescent wave microscopy; PIP3; PKA; Epac; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : cAMP and Ca2+ are key regulators of exocytosis in many cells, including insulin-secreting pancreatic β-cells. Glucose-stimulated insulin secretion from β-cells is pulsatile and driven by oscillations of the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), but little is known about the kinetics of cAMP signaling and the mechanisms of cAMP action. 3. 13. Adhesion Dependent Signals : Cell Survival, Receptor Crosstalk and Mechanostimulation

    Författare :Anjum Riaz; Staffan Johansson; Bengt Hallberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Integrins; Signal transduction; Protein kinase B; Akt; PI3K; Heparanase; ROS; Mechanosignalling; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi; Cellforskning; Cell Research;

    Sammanfattning : The integrin family of cell surface receptors is evolutionary conserved and found in all multicellular animals. In humans 8-alpha and 18-beta integrins are non-covalently associated into 24 dimers. Integrins mediate cell-extracellular matrix and cell-cell interactions and participate in cell signalling. 4. 14. Engraftment of Pancreatic Islets in Alternative Transplantation Sites and the Feasibility of in vivo Monitoring of Native and Transplanted Beta-Cell Mass

    Författare :Daniel Espes; Per-Ola Carlsson; Joey Lau; Mia Phillipson; Eelco de Koning; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Islet transplantation; Alternative implantation sites; Exendin-4; Positron Emission Tomography; 5-hydroxy tryptophan; Beta-cell mass; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Islet transplantation is a possible curative treatment for type 1 diabetes (T1D). Currently the liver dominates as implantation site, despite the many challenges encountered at this site.Acute hypoxia in islets transplanted to muscle and omentum, two possible alternative sites, was prevailing. 5. 15. Heparan sulfate dependent cell signaling and associated pathophysiology : Implications in tumorigenesis and embryogenesis

    Författare :Tahira Batool; Jin-Ping Li; Aristidis Moustakas; Liliana Schaefer; Ingvar Ferby; Michael Welsh; Anders Malmström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heparanase; Glucuronyl-C5 epimerase; Heparan Sulfate; Heparin; Lung Cancer; Cancer cell Singling; TGF-Beta; BMP; VEGF; Notch Signaling; Tumor growth; Metastasis; embryonic development; Medical Biochemistry; Medicinsk biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) consist of a protein core to which several linear, negatively charged heparan sulfate (HS) chains are covalently attached. HSPGs are expressed on the cell surface and in the extra-cellular matrix (ECM) where they have diverse biological functions, for example co-receptor functions. LÄS MER
