    Sammanfattning : This manuscript focuses on the relationship between coal and the history of the over 300,000 Italian miners who moved to Wallonia, Belgium, from 1946 onwards, in accordance to the State agreement between Italy and Belgium known as “men in exchange for coal.” Notably, I use environmental history of migration to analyze what I define as “the metabolism of coal.     Sammanfattning : This dissertation aims to contribute to the field of discourse analysis by focusing on three discourse marker candidates, namely buoys, PALM-UP and the sign SAME, in French Belgian Sign Language (LSFB) and Catalan Sign Language (LSC). The first issue in the study of discourse markers is their identification, which has been based on three criteria: to be syntactically optional, to be non-truth-conditional and to constrain the inferential mechanisms of interpretation processes.     Sammanfattning : This PhD research project investigates how the professional identity of the Chinese TV news presenter is constructed in two news programmes, Guangdong News and TVS News, both based at Guangdong TV.
