  1. 1. The role of the mitochondrial membrane system in apoptosis : the influence of oxidative stress on membranes and their interactions with apoptosis-regulating Bcl-2 proteins

    Författare :Martin Lidman; Gerhard Gröbner; Magnus Wolf-Watz; Philip Williamson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bax; Bc-2; apoptosis; mitochondria; membranes; oxidized lipids; NMR; calorimetry; circular dichroism; biokemi; Biochemistry; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis is a crucial process in multicellular organisms in sculpting them, especially during embryogenesis. In addition, apoptosis is responsible for the clearance of harmful or damaged cells which can otherwise be detrimental to the organism. LÄS MER

  2. 2. High resolution genomic tools for the discovery of protein function in mammalian cells

    Författare :Emily Carol Hodges; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell-based assays; overexpression; RNAi; BC2; C3F; Taxol;

    Sammanfattning : The work described in this thesis emphasizes the development of cell-based strategies with increased throughput design that enable rapid biological discovery through direct investigation of protein function. Each of the works represented in this thesis are unified by the common premise that genetic perturbations, through loss or gain-of-function, in cell-based models may serve as an entry point for assigning biological roles to uncharacterized genes and their gene products. 3. 3. Pregnancy and breast cancer : risk patterns, tumour characteristics and prognosis

    Författare :Anna L V Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Pregnancy-associated breast cancer (PABC) is commonly defined as a breast cancer (BC) diagnosed during pregnancy or within one or two years after delivery. The risk of BC is lower than expected during pregnancy with a small rebound within 2 years after delivery, compared to non-pregnant women of the same age. LÄS MER
